I suddenly have a question, since I know you read the novel. Was Fan Changyu illiterate in it? Someone mentioned she taught Bao'er to read, so that would be proof to the contrary ? Unless that happened long after events when she set out as "Butcher squad" leader, and someone (who?) had managed to teach her ?

Yeah, she is illiterate. I don't quite remember if she taught Bao'er. But Bao'er learnt a lot from his mother already before they met Changyu and Changning. Later after Bao'er become the emperor, the two kids study together in the palace under good teachers. Changyu keeps studying with the help of Xie Zheng, Master Tao and some scholars invited by Xie Zheng (not Li Huai an). So I assume she's able to read a full letter after she becomes a general. >_<

So ML and FL's parents and grandfather, Wei Yan, and Qi Min's dad (the crown prince) were all in the same camp/friends but because the late emperor (Qi Min's grandfather) didn't want the crown prince to take the throne, he plotted to break them all up and kill them. ML's dad and Qi Min's dad died on the battlefield and the late emperor manipulated events to make it look like it was FL's grandfather/dad fault. Wei Yan knew what was going on but the late emperor had the woman he loved in his hands and so he let things play out until he could take out the emperor himself. Is that basically the story?

thanks for answer 😊 The "teaching of the adhd student" in Ep.32 (edit :31) was very funny. Even Li Huai'an had to get medical help!! It's uplifting to those who can't read The Art of War in the original, to know the even heroines can be dyslexic, at least in Chinese dramas, and still be promoted to generals.
