Because there are so many deaths in A Splendid Match, especially towards the end, and ones involving some of the most interesting and best characters, I thought you might be interested in the Red Envelopes that are given out on set to both the actors and the crew before filming begins. Especially to those actors whose characters die.

After all, while China is a superstitious culture, the world of acting is also full of rites to protect the actors and the production (never say "Good Luck" in a theater, say "Break a leg" for instance), and handing out Red Envelopes to all involved is one rite that rarely if ever is ignored on a Chinese set.

And when it comes to an actor playing a character who eventually dies, that becomes doubly so, as who wants that bad karma to attach itself to them! :)
