First drama ever where I truly wanted to smack some sense in every single main character
When I started this drama I thought I was signing up for a fun second chance story where they would work out their differences and finish their story on paper and in real life. Nothing could be further from the case. What actually happens is we are given a group of friends who toss us into the deep end of psych case studies. We are thrown in a current of darker aspects of people and there is rarely a letup. There wasn’t a single character that I did not want to smack some sense into as their stories and relationships progress. And right when you want to toss the towel in and not hear any more, they segue into an interesting debate of AI in the arts. Do we really want a platform where humans only offer input as co authors with AI chosen subjects or where humans ARE the input and subject deciders. The amalgam of this argument and the peripheral of the characters progressing or not kept me interested until the bitter end. This is one where you have to choose for yourself if it’s watch worthy. The cast does an excellent job of bringing their characters across. They explore an entire spectrum of gray and black characters. I don’t think I will ever watch it again, but for as much as it truly annoyed the hell out of me at times, I can’t say I regret watching. It made me think about relationships from a very different albeit dark perspective. The argument and debate over AI in the arts was thought provoking and interesting. It gave me food for thought about why it is intensely debated.Esta resenha foi útil para você?
Initially Funny then it gets real
Synopsis makes you think this is your standard Strong female lead's story and honestly it didn't look like anything unique. I started it for the incredible list of cast from supporting characters to the leads, but end up enjoy the story quite a bit.Positives:
1. Production quality. Color grading has a movie feel in a made up city, both modern but with a throw back feel.
2. Interesting characters: lots of characters you love to hate, and hate to love.
---ML: Giant Man Child. Mark Chao provides lots of comic relief initially before story got serious
---FL: Sometimes you'll hate her bossiness, other times you'll feel for her struggles. Overall I love her character
---Yang Cai Yu: Smart beautiful bestie with hot girl problems. The complex relationship with her lawyer is interesting.
---ML's new editor: I love this veteran supporting actress. She always pulls off this kind of a character flawlessly
---Other supporting characters, FL's ex partners, FL's assistant, Lawyer, New writer etc etc are all interesting characters with relatable real issues. Morally "grey" to some extent.
3. Story line and dialogue. At least in Chinese its smart and witty especially for the ML's comebacks.
4. OST: There are some really good songs in here. I hope I can find them all
---Ending Song (Jane Zhang: 爱情没有神话)
---Ep 5 18min in (Cross the Line)
---Ep 7 23 min in
Negatives:
1. It may feel a bit repetitive with the constant back & forth competitive nature. I don't mind it since I enjoy the dialogue but it may not be for everyone.
2. Not the ideal ending .... It's one of those Yeah... I get it but I hate it
If you enjoy smart female-centric modern C-dramas then this is a great pick!
