Personally, I think the painting represents a fading memory.

At first glance, both the tree and the person are blurry, almost as if they're disappearing with time. Yet neither is completely lost. Their outlines remain visible because of the warm sunlight shining from the left. To me, that light symbolizes the love and happiness Lu Xiao once felt in those memories.

Just as Zhou Wan said in the prev scene:

"Actions don't lie. If you truly believed your mom never loved you, why would you miss her so much?"

Even if Lu Xiao has spent years trying to convince himself otherwise, the love his mother gave him refuses to be erased. The details of the memories may have faded, but the feelings attached to them remain.

There's also a swing hanging from the tree.

On a literal level, it immediately recalls the childhood memory of Lu Xiao playing on a swing with his mother.

Symbolically, however, a tree swing often represents innocence, childhood nostalgia, freedom, and a peaceful escape from the burdens of adulthood.

The tree itself can also be seen as a symbol of roots, family, and growth. Though blurred by time, it still stands strong. Just like his memories of his mother, it remains a part of him.

That's why I don't see this painting as being about forgetting. It's about how genuine love survives even when memories begin to fade.

Time may blur the details, but it cannot erase the warmth that gave those memories meaning.
