This drama kicks off with an immediate contest…

This drama kicks off with an immediate contest of wits between Li Pei Yi (Bai Lu) and Xiao Huai Jin (Wang Xing Yue). Right off the bat from the moment they meet they both start measuring each other up on the intelligence scale. Huaijin seemingly has a bit of an advantage in that he knows her from something connected to the night her family was killed whereas she apparently does not recognize him. He seems to think this gives him room to maneuver. However, she recognizes one of his tokens and it gives her a flashback to that night so she already knows he's connected in some way. The flashback seems to suggest that the boy version of him led the girl version of her to safety that night, but we don't have a lot more to go on yet. At any rate, while after their initial encounter he tries to distance himself from her, she clearly took steps to get an imperial decree to force him to assist her. This suggests strongly that she already realizes he has some connection to her. r

On the quality of the show, first impressions: Wow, absolute stunning visuals and fantastic cast. The cinematography and costumes are as good as on any drama series I've watched. The camerawork and lighting and effects are being used like an artist's paintbrush to produce some beautiful, mesmerizing imagery. And while it's probably enough to laud the casting of Bai Lu and Wang Xing Yue (glad to see them as allies after being in opposition in One and Only), the rest of the cast is filled out with veteran, talented actors up and down the cast. So far, this all foretells a really excellent drama to come.

Bai Lu's new character is amazing!

When Bai Lu acts like a soldier, warrior or whatever, her character is amazing! It is better than acting as a Goddess.I remember her characters looks just like that on Untouchable Lovers and The Legends. A powerful woman looking for justice and survival.

But I still think that the princess is alive and asked for help to escape from the Hell Palace. This murder is not convincing without a corpse to me.

Truth Buried Beneath the Lantern Light

Episode 1 of Unveil: Jadewind comes charging out of the gate like a horse race—no slow burn, no careful peeling back of layers. From the opening moments, we’re thrown straight into Li Pei Yi’s past. She’s the sole survivor of a massacre after her father supposedly went mad and killed everyone. That explanation never sat right with her—she knows her father’s character too well—so it’s clear there’s something far more sinister at play.

Because of this unresolved trauma, Li Pei Yi throws herself into her work, building a reputation for solving crimes. She’s driven, emotionally guarded, and very much a lone wolf. The central whodunnit kicks off with a political marriage alliance: Princess Huai Si, a low-ranking princess, is set to marry, but during the Lantern Festival she’s murdered. Li Pei Yi is devastated—she was close to the princess—and becomes determined to uncover the truth behind her death.

Her investigation brings her into contact with Xiao Huai Jin, an imperial astronomer. The stars have already delivered their warning, and the prophecy has come to fruition. Charged by the emperor to uncover the truth, he’s bound by silence and unable to reveal what he knows, adding an intriguing layer of tension and mystery to his role.

Both Bai Lu and Wang Xing Yue present strong visuals—cold, distant, and restrained. At this stage, the drama doesn’t appear to be leaning into romance, instead focusing squarely on its murder mystery and political intrigue.

While the episode didn’t completely hook me from the very first minute, it is interesting. The groundwork has been laid well, the mystery has potential, and Episode 1 does enough to make me curious about what’s really hidden behind the stars—and the past.
