If Madness were a method of revenge..
Previously I thought There’s seriously something off with the FL’s brain— Every single time she needs to hide, she manages to make noise and get caught. no understanding of the concept of stealth whatsoever .. I was like "oh God !! Another lame female lead in another defeated drama", and started questioning my choice of picking this drama. But soon she leveled up her game quite nicely and she didn't just avenge her mother and brother's death ..she literally destroy the culprit's entire clan.
Her way and shear will power of going to any extent be it hurting herself in the process or staying with her abusive husband, was commendable.. she could've just stayed with the ML who was powerful enough to help her accomplish her mission within a click of his fingers, but she walked this path of vengeance alone, not dragging any person on her route to pure destruction.
I won’t share any more spoilers about the plot, but I’ll say this — we need more female leads like her. Not just in revenge stories, but in everyday narratives too. Characters who send a strong, clear message: women are more than capable of walking their own path, taking action, and owning the consequences. They don’t always need a male lead to come to their rescue — because strength, resilience, and independence can shine just as powerfully on their own.
Jiu Lin was definitely a solid choice for the male lead, but I have to admit—I found the villain husband even more compelling in his own twisted Fifty Shades of Grey way. Characters like his aren’t easy to pull and gravitate an ample amount of hate, irrespective of that Liu Yaoyuan handled that balance brilliantly. And his lunatic side .. chef's kiss plus later the tussle between FL and this villian to see who can be the bigger lunatic, wow!
Zhu Jin was wonderful as the female lead—her performance hit all the right notes. That said, I personally feel Daisy Li might’ve been an even better fit for this role. For one, the character demanded a more seasoned actress than the male lead to convincingly portray the age gap. And secondly, Daisy and Jiu Lin haven’t been paired before, which could’ve brought a fresh, dynamic chemistry. Her elegance and grace alongside his rugged charm might have elevated the impact.
Still, the current casting isn’t bad by any means—it holds its own well.
The ending was quite confusing and disappointing but that is pretty much expected from these pre independence plots, they have to accomodate that patriot sacrifice thing in the story so they just put the heroic death of ML in the end.
