Affair Episode 3 Reactions

Later in bed at home, Wan admits that she actually does not dislike Ek, but doen’t want to open up to him. Perhaps you’re not interested, then? Anyway, Pleng admits that she is not really looking for a boy, as she is happy living alone. Just how alone are you? Why is Ek calling at that late an hour? Anyway, Pleng and Wan are teasing each other by almost kissing and holding each other closely. Yeah, this is friend behaviour…
The next morning, Wan has already gone to school. Then, Ek calls Pleng and asks for her help again; she wants to ask her out upfront this time.
Aunt Wi also inquires about Ek, Pleng says he’s a good boy “in every way”. Thus, now Aunt Wi also wants her to help them become a couple. She encourages Pleng to make a decision for Wan – we all saw how that went last time…
Pleng meets up with Wan after school at the mall to eat some desert. Actually, she wants Wan to meet with Ek, and after some pushback from Wan she agrees. Cut to the three of them sitting in a café of some kind (with Pleng looking decidedly unhappy) when Wan is making some polite conversation (Ek being accepted into business school).
We also get the explanation for Wan’s name: วันวิวาห์ means “wedding day”, because Pleng’s parents married on the day that Aunt Wi got into labour. Ek remarks that Plengs know Wan so well that he wouldn’t have a chance if she was a man and he’s had to compete with her. Dude, you must be the most clueless person on this planet.
Pleng then suddenly feel like the third wheel in this meeting and excuses herself. But Wan runs after her and remarks that while Pleng arranged this meeting, she wasn’t really happy about it, because Pleng loves Wan as well. Pleng claims their mutual love is platonic (denial much?), and Wan agrees to date Ek, but only if Pleng is out of the picture. And since that will never happen, this is not much of a compromise. Right? Right?!?
Why is the music Pleng is clearly playing on the piano muted, when they play the exact same song five seconds later on the soundtrack?
Wan would like to get a song for herself from Pleng, but Pleng doesn’t know what to write. As the title song of the show is all about trying to put her emotions into a song, she clearly managed to someday. 😊
“Friends don’t usually write songs for each other” 😊
Wan teases her to spell her feelings right out then and there, but relents quickly. And then she kisses her one her cheek.
Then we get into the dramatic portion of the story. Pleng returns home the next day to find her father’s attorney visiting. Surely, the problems at the company must be bigger than he let on. She enters the living room to find Wan and Frank – who is apparently the son of the lawyer – in conversation. Pleng reacts jealous yet again, but says Ek, Wan’s boyfriend, might get jealous. Wan exposes this lie, but claims she actually in in love with someone. Now who might that be, and why is she looking at Pleng while she saying that? 🤔
This conversation ends when his day reappears, apparently finished with his talks with Wut. Wan and Pleng talk some more about Frank – and Ek, of course – but then, Pleng shares was she’s been buying alone that day: a bra – for Wan, who currently still wears Pleng’s old bra; she asks Pleng to put it on for her – and Pleng complies. That night they’re lying together in bed again, and teasing each other, leading to an almost kiss – that is interrupted by a gunshot.
So, it has happened…Yes, Wut has shot himself, and apparently that is too much for her mother as well, she collapses in Aunt Wi’s arms. Pleng is crying over her father, Wan is also devastated, but eventually manages to call an ambulance. But the hospital cannot save the life af Pleng’s mother, she died of cardiac arrest. Clearly, she was sick before. So, Pleng has lost both her parents in one day, as I feared last week.
Apparently, Pleng’s family was Christian – that is clearly a minority in Thailand.
Her father set aside some money for Pleng – which is the only thing she has left of her family, as her father’s assets are being seized to pay off his debts. Pleng feels the weight of the world on her and has a nervous breakdown at the house she must now be leaving, but Wan never leaves her side.
Wi, Wan and also Pleng relocate to Wan’s dad’s home (why wasn’t he in the picture previously?), where the dad is apparently less that pleased. But Wan stays by Pleng’s side and says the needn’t be strong with her, directly contradicting her mother. Wi once again stresses that Pleng needs to put her life in order, and that she needs to have a plan for the time her money runs out. She also claims that Pleng can stay with them – for now, as the house belongs to Wan’s father.
That night, Wan returns form school with a bruise on hear face. Wan can lie all she wants about that, but we all know what happened, right? The next day, Pleng herself returns to school, only to find everyone talking about her – her former bandmates approach her, but Pleng is in no condition to talk to them, and assaults them. Wan tries to help her back, but Pleng ends up hurting Wan, and is visibly shocked by it.
Later, one of her former bandmates reveals to Pleng that Wan got into a fight the day before because of her. She looks for her and encounters her at the stairs; she feels she’s a burden to Wan and apologizes for that. Wan in turn apologizes for not leaving her when Pleng pushed here away – but claims she could not bring herself to do it, because she loves her too much. Then, Pleng FINALLY admits that she loves Wan just as much.
This time, the post-credit scenes come before the credits; Wan is warned that her behaviour as well as her GPA will play a part in the decision whether she will be admitted to medical school.
And that’s where the episode ends; we covered a lot of ground today, and I liked that Wan and Pleng finally talked about their feelings. It appears that next time, we get the big time skip; I wonder what stories they’ll be telling after that – apart from the one that was already teasing in episode 1.
