Affair Episode 8 Reactions
Overall, the production delivered seven episodes of a well paced romantic drama and one final episode of a hashed up kettle of hot mess that focused more on the tender feelings of side characters than the unfinished business between the leads.
The ending was a waste of the palpable chemistry between the leads, but I'm so glad we got to see the male lead's feelings being soothed, because that's what's really important. Nevermind he's a voyeuristic stalker who broke into someone's home, whipped out a gun, and threatened to kill two people. Good thing the script explained the women drove him to it or we might have thought the character actually bore responsibility for his own actions.
The final episode continued the push-pull of Pleng's reluctance to be physically intimate with Wan. I thought we'd seen the last of that, but her cruel sexual teasing of the past has resurfaced, along with her her casual disregard of Wan's feelings. My primary thought after watching this episode was, "I hope Wan kept Neung's phone number."
The finale was a huge swing and a miss for the scriptwriter and production team. It wasn't Chao Planoy's fault. The novel had its shortcomings, but Pleng's character was all-in in the book.
I hope the leads get another project together - this time with less misogynistic executive oversight - because Lookmhee Punyapat Wangpongsathaporn and Sonya Saranphat Pedersen acted their hearts out and got screwed by the script in the end. They, and we, deserved far better.
