I did not expect the scholar to try to accompany Pei. They are all determined to have their way and force Ning to comply. She was a beautiful bride and at least one night of happiness before the storm. 🥰Zhuo even managed to stir things up after death as his last vengeance. Pei has put everything on the line but he knows this registry is forged and can save Ning. So he has silenced the one who could discredit it and say the truth. He kindly retired the prior registrar so this was final loose end to ensure her safety. I am not sure what he is going to do with longevity lock because that is the last tangible proof of his identity. I wish Ning could have given him more scraps of what his mother was like. I also think her keen mind has just about put everything in place. Sad foreboding because it has become too big to hide. This is why Pei accepts his fate and pretends to hold her hostage.
