Third time is sometimes not a charm

In my review of the previous episode, I stated that after something good happens, there's always pain and suffering. That's exactly what happens. I should have known Subaru would be squeezed out at the plate, or rather his cheeks, yet once again by Madoka. That makes it three times now that she stops his longing lips from contacting hers. In the last episode she had granted him a light kiss. After all, he had risked his life to save hers. But she wasn’t about to let him return the favor! Understandable, considering her nature and upbringing. Subaru does get to hug Madoka later, and she doesn’t reject his embrace. That scene was almost as heart-pounding as the kiss, and in some respects even more photogenically loving, if I can put it that way. So that’s a good sign of their budding romance. And it makes all the expected dreariness surrounding Subaru's inevitable plight bearable. And with that wonderful hug scene where Madoka shows a more tender-loving side of herself, the budding romance is cut short. All of build-up between Subaru and Madoka is put on the back burner, as the spotlight turns to Rihito. Not only does he have his sights set on Madoka, but also on the reins of Fukuten! It's as if he were an RPG character who instantly levels up ten times! What a surprising twist added to this fairy tale. And it seems that he has the upper hand over Subaru in both matters. This episode kind of reminds me of the movie "The Empire Strikes Back." Great romantic scene between Luke and Leia (Ick! Brother and sister!), but in the end, Darth Vader (blood relative, father in fact to Luke) summarily cuts off Luke's hand. What is a poor Onzoshi-Boy to do? Will he come back even stronger and more determined than ever, as Luke did in "Return of the Jedi?" We’ll have to tune in next week to find out! May the Force be with Subaru!
