Maki, who has incredible memory and sharp insight, is appointed the head of the Ninth and takes on this new mission alongside his best friend from university, Suzuki Katsuhiro, who serves as deputy head. The Ninth puts the brains of victims and perpetrators of heinous and serious crimes into a special MRI scanner. The technology was developed by brain scientist Kainuma Kiyotaka and has increased the possibility of uncovering the truth while also raising ethical issues.
