When Matsuda Ayumi worked as a freelance writer she met Chinese cameraman Fan Xiao Xuan, who worked at the same publishing company in Tokyo. They married 5 years ago. After his employers went bankrupt, Fan Xiao Xuan and Matsuda Ayumi moved to Ishigaki Island. Fan Xiao Xuan also decided to apply for naturalization as a Japanese citizen.
