What Should I Do If Professor Qi Spoils Me too Much? (2024)

A different take on this plot premise.

(I rate vertical dramas on their own sliding scale). General spoilers only.
Has the same starting premise as a couple other shows (example Professor Qi Borrowed A Marriage) but a noticeably different take on the story from there.

Things that are different:

The FL did not have a toxic/abusive relationship with the SML.

Both the FL and ML are serious, dignified, and capable. They are not hesitant, soft people.

It is apparent to the FL pretty quickly that the ML has liked her for a long time and had designs on her.

The FL is a bit cold but it came across as guarded and jaded. She knew her godparents coveted the money her parents left her, and also knew once she got her grandfather's inheritance upon her marriage that it would be a target for any family she married into. (Similar to the other shows, she starts to show more warmth and some liveliness as her relationship with the ML progresses. She also starts to smile more, and more widely, as she falls for the ML and enjoys their relationship.)

The FL can fight back well enough to protect herself from sexual assault; doesn't need to be rescued. Yay!

The ML is a bit eager and pushy in progressing the steps of their relationship (in everything, but doesn't over-push sexually at least). He is possessive and a bit shameless. But he is also a good communicator, admires the FL as she is, and does his best to support and protect her. He is also quite lustful.

The SML does care about the FL but even though they are about to be engaged to be married, he feels like she's too cold. So he gets drunk and pretends to hang with another girl while saying disrespectful things about the FL. He was hoping to force a reaction from her to show that she cared about him. So his endless pursuit of her after she breaks it off with him makes more sense than the shows with the cheating guys who do a complete 180. He's still not likeable, but he's not a bad guy either.

Other notes:

There are lots of realistic kiss scenes, though most are quite brief. As their relationship progresses, the kisses become mutually passionate. There is also some flirting and sexually charged dialogue along with moments of romantic and sexual tension. There was enough sweetness to have me smiling at times.

There are some dramatic plot elements, but it felt like most of the focus remained on the leads.

Green flag ML & many kisses but bland FL

I have watched Yao Yu Chen's dramas before but this is my first drama of Chen Jing He. I decided to watch this drama because I was curious about his acting & I was sold by the high rating.

What I liked:
1. ML characterisation - Green flag hero. He is smart & resourceful.
2. Romance - ML has had crush on FL since their first meet. There was more push (by FL) than pull but when they got together, they were sweet with each other. Many kisses.

What I disliked:
1. FL characterisation - FL is bland and meek. I was disappointed because I enjoyed Yao Yu Chen's past characters which always have spark.
2. FL's adopted father - Despicable.

When FL remembered that she left her bra in the bathroom and went to retrieve it
