The price one must pay for love
If you know me in IRL then you know ENEMIES TO LOVERS is my favorite trope and it is rare that it is done right but this time they gave us friends to enemies/rivals to lovers to enemies to lovers. the plot lost me sometimes and the ending felt a bit rushed and underdeveloped but Zi Ang is the definition of " I will burn the world for you and i will die for you". this man sacrificed his well being, endured pain and hatred for the one he loved. he wanted to protect his person no matter what the cost would be. This story was one of love, pain, betrayal and sacrificeWas this review helpful to you?
best series of the year
This is the first time I've seen such a unique and fresh script. This is what I've always wanted to see on screen. I love the theme of ancient China, it immediately gives + points to the vibe. This work is an absolute work of art. The series was created with great attention and love. Every dialogue, every emotion was so natural that my emotions jumped up and down every episode. I can definitely call this series the best work of the year at least. This is one of the best doramas in the entire history of bl. The bittersweet plot took me on a roller coaster and I felt all the empathy in my soul for these characters. Was this review helpful to you?

One of the best historical BL drama
I have been waiting for a proper BL historical drama from china for ages now, my wish has been completed. Absolutely loved the story, acting and visuals. The only complaint I have is that they used AI for army marching to South Kingdom. But I guess I can neglect that taking under the consideration since this is a low production drama compared to others.I have seen edits on insta and people saying Duan Xi Ang is a red flag but taking under the circumstances on how Shu He became a king, as his beloved I totally understand how Xi Ang couldn't just sit and watch people turn against Shu He.
The ending seems perfect. I am so happy they showed heaven scene where Shu He waited for Xi Ang. As a viewer it was a good closure. Definitely loved the scene where crown prince apologized to his brother.
I would love to see these two actors again in modern BL drama. Love them!

To the mountains and rivers
oh what good times were that, waiting for this to be airing. at the end i was smiling and crying simultaneously, at least they got the life they longed for. I'm happy for that, death necessarily doesn't mean of a sad ending.I think what shu he did was reasonable, he still wanted to take revenge but didn't know how, because he loved this man undeniably. It'll be too painful if one has to die at the end and one has to live afterwards. He knew duan zi ang didn't have much more time,so he took his revenge by taking what ZI ang loved the most, shu he himself. He had what he wanted, Zi Ang suffered before he died at the thought of shu he dying before him. what is painful more than the feeling that the one we loved to die infront of our own eyes. I've realised that, They only needed to be together , and they had it at the end. I'm truly greatful for the cast and crew for bringing out such an amaizing master piece. I'll remember u forever, farewell Duan zi and and xiano shu he.Was this review helpful to you?

Unforgettable Tragic/Bittersweet yet Beautiful Story
An Unforgettable, Breathtaking historical BL that beautifully blends romance, Tragedy and Destiny. The cast delivered outstanding perfomances, bringing deep emotions to every scene. The OST perfectly captured the atmosphere and made the story even more heartwarming. Though the ending was bittersweet, it leaves a sense of solace and hope as the couple reunites in the afterlife. A drama that lingers in your heart long after the final episode... It's truly a "MASTERPIECE".Was this review helpful to you?

A Romance Wearing Historical Clothes: Kill to Love and Its Missed Potential
I went into Kill to Love with expectations of a historical political drama with heavy plotting, mind games, war, and inevitable separation. What I got was something… quite different. What worked for me :-
From a BL standpoint, this series genuinely felt refreshing and experimental. The historical BL setup, two enemy kingdoms, lovers to enemies... is rare, especially in "Chinese" dramas under censorship.
The acting was solid, and despite being a low-budget production, it never felt cheap or lacking. The pacing was surprisingly good for a short drama; it didn’t feel that rushed, and the emotional beats were placed well. The chemistry between the leads carried the show and made it emotionally engaging till the end.
As a BL historical experiment, I appreciate that the creators tried something different instead of playing it safe.
Where it fell apart :-
However, if we remove the BL lens, the drama collapses as a “historical” series. The so-called historical backdrop existed only to serve the romance.
There were - no political intrigue, no war strategy, no meaningful plotting or power struggles. Everything revolved around the MLs’ love story, making the historical aspect feel superficial.
The inevitable misunderstanding was poorly written and logically weak. The idea that a character would hate the man who killed his brother to save his life, while ignoring the fact that said brother murdered his father and attempted to kill him, felt forced and unconvincing.
The green-flag to black-flag transformation of one ML came out of nowhere. There was no gradual psychological descent, just a sudden shift without proper buildup.
The wedding scene felt extremely out of place.
If a character truly loves his country, marrying someone who directly or indirectly led to its destruction contradicts both logic and character ideology.
The afterlife “waiting” ending felt like an artificial attempt to create the illusion of a happy ending. Personally, I would have preferred a clean tragic ending. This version felt unrealistic and emotionally dishonest.
Final verdict :-
As a pure historical drama: 5/10
As a romance-driven story: mediocre
As a Chinese historical BL attempting something new: 8.5/10
Overall, Kill to Love works because of its BL core, not because of its historical or political storytelling. It’s an ambitious attempt constrained by its own writing choices, emotionally engaging, but structurally weak.
Still, for a "Chinese" historical BL trying a new genre blend, it deserves credit.

Loyal Brave True
This is the very first drama that I cried so hard at the last two three episodes. My heart ached so much while knowing the truth between them and the way they misleading them by not having proper communication lead them to the end 😔. I still have many doubts in some scence that I still not figured out but they did really amazing 😍 job. Still I'm crying and for sure this is not what anyone expected in the end..
.
Love gave birth to worry
Love gave birth to fear
.
Power and love can change a person truly brutal 😔

What I thought of the series: Love can survive everything but sometimes not. Love, tears, friendship and the afterlife. One's heart breaks into pieces. How much should two people who love each other suffer. I hope in the afterlife that they get to live a peaceful life with lots of love. You can find more of my reviews on Instagram. :D See my homepage about my Instagram account. The Historical Chinese BL drama we've all been waiting for !! (2nd Review)
I just don't know where to start. The title is literally what happens in this BL. This BL was so good that I had to give it a 10/10 review because this is my second one so far after finding out about MDL. I'm so happy I found it in my recommendations. I LOVED IT SO MUCH, I'M JUST SO HAPPY I FOUND IT BECAUSE I WOULD'VE DIED WITHOUT KNOWING THERE WAS A BL ON CHINESE HISTORICAL DRAMA!.Story: The story was so different from what I'd had in mind when I started watching it. I loved how it progressed, and it ended as I would have imagined after watching the 11th episode, but not entirely because of how different elements are added. I loved how the story writers didn't leave us hanging in the end, they left us with a bittersweet happy ending, which made me really happy because I thought it would end in one of them getting killed or not reuniting together, but no. (I still shed tears). incredible story, I loved every single bit of it. one thing tho, Shu He is so kind-hearted that he still went out with Zi Ang, who basically destroyed all his kingdom and family. I totally understood his feelings at the end because imagine going through all that?? He's more kind-hearted than me for sure.
Acting/Casting: The acting was phenomenal. Like they dropped tears where they were needed and gave smiles when needed. I just wish that Shu he given a little bit more words of affection on how much he actually loves Zi Ang(it's the diction problem with that one). Both Actors did AMAZING in their roles, they deserve to be more recognized for their hard work(plus they're handsome. I couldn't keep my eyes off of Shu He who is Mi Jin). Every single casting member seemed to be perfect, no flaws. They did amazing portraying the emotions and feelings for the viewers (I cried happy tears and sad tears, I don't know how many times), but yeah, amazing work.
Music: The choice of music was good too. I don't have much to say about it, honestly, but I love the OST(?) of the beginning and ending of each episode. I just love Chinese music where there's like a flute doing a beautiful melody or some other kind of instrument like guqin(it is called like that, right?)
Rewatch Value: I would for sure watch it again when I have the time. It's just that the emotions gets to me sometimes(I overreact), but yeah, I would for sure rewatch when I have no other things to watch.
OVERALL I'M JUST SO HAPPY I FOUND THIS BL! COULDN'T BE HAPPIER! 🫶🫶

When you love a fool
The drama starts off slow with episode 1. My interest built up from episode 2. Everything was great until ep 7, I believe. Then things started going downhill for me. I understand that some stories are tragedies and I have enjoyed them too but forcefully turning a story into a tragedy didn't sit well with me. I just couldn't understand Xiao Shu He's behaviour. He was desperate to be a martyr and extremely selfish.Like many historical dramas, Kill To Love also has a power struggle plot. The problem was that Duan Zi Ang had learnt to fight for survival. But Xiao Shu He led a cushy life and failed to take charge and lead. I understand not everyone is capable of leading. But I don't understand his hate that lead to tragedy for everyone including himself. Why did he refuse an alliance? But later he acted as though he cared for his people. An alliance would have greatly benefitted the kingdom.
As for the romance, initially the chemistry was great but towards the end, everything was uncomfortable and almost intolerable to watch just because of Xiao Shu He.
In the whole story, the one I pity most is Duan Zi Ang. He suffered needlessly. There was also a certain medicine recipe that I wish had been used but they didn't. So the final scene was just not my cup of tea.
With every episode towards the end my mental rating kept dropping because I couldn't understand why this one person is behaving so obstinately. It ruined my overall experience. Actually there were 2 more stubborn side characters. It seems no one wanted positivity in their lives.
Nonetheless, for the most part, it was interesting even if I don't include the first and last 4 episodes. I disliked the ending because it felt like a fool's dream. The actors did a decent job on their part when it came to emoting. I found them quite stiff in episode 1 though to the point that I couldn't get into the story and nearly dropped it.
Personally, this isn't a drama I could rewatch.
