thank youuuu i really felt lost with the plots and the story but you helped me
No worries - all credit to the original poster on Douban.
Thanks for sharing these translations @PeachBlossomGoddess. Coming here because the relationships between everyone has me CONFUSED. Would really appreciate if someone could tell me...
Who was Prince of Qi? Is that Emperor Wenxi's brother or something? How would swapping children hide their affair? So Xiao Wu Yi and Li Mao are technically from the same family...like cousins?
What's the An-Lu case, is 'An' related to Consort An - explaining why Grand Tutor's so hung up over it? Weren't they guilty though? I got lost in Grand Tutor's scheming ways, he just wants to get revenge for An-Lu families. Why is he so against Xiao Wu Yi? His schemes basically killed all the soldiers of the country he belongs to.
How is the current emperor (who was ill due to his mother's poison) related to everyone? Is this still the same family line as Emperor Wenxi?

I can't quote your full post but:
Prince Qi relationship - see this discussion post:
https://kisskh.at/790870-que-gu/discussions/153476-who-are-li-mao-and-li-lejun-and-how-are-they-related-to-the-imperial-familyConsort An is part of the An clan - she was probably executed along with her family. They were not guilty. The Dowager Empress of Northern Qin named them as traitors to frame her old lover's family. Emperor Wenli knew they were innocent but he wanted to reduce the power of the nobility so he believed the lie and executed them. Besides his lover, Grand Tutor Xie stands for the rights of the nobility who get preferential treatment in exams and in getting high positions in the government and in the military. Xiao Wuyi wants to dismantle the privileges of the nobility and make it a meritocracy. So they are natural opponents of each other's POV.
Yes they all belong to the the imperial family surname Li. When Wenxi's line died out, a distant cousin was named to succeed him as emperor. Its in the timeline.

Can you please also explain about the post credit scene and the relationships in prince Qi's house? How many wives did he have? If consort An was executed due to injustice, then who is the woman who was killed by northern qin? Who is Li Mao?
The late Prince Qi (Li Mao is the present Prince Qi) had one official wife - Princess Consort Qi. It is not mentioned how many consorts he had. But Consort An was the emperor's consort. She had an affair with the Grand Tutor and they had an illegitimate son. The Grand Tutor arranged for Prince Qi's nanny to swap his son with Prince Qi's newborn son. Throughout the drama, we are told that that baby is Li Mao and theGrand Tutor had secretly raised him as a member of the imperial family. But in the end credits, it says that when Wuyi found the nanny, he learned that the Grand Tutor's son was sickly and died before the Qi nanny could swap him. So the Grand Tutor never found out that Li Mao was not really his son but the late Prince Qi's son.
Thanks so much for replying @PeachBlossomGoddess! You're the MVP
Forgot to ask:
Didn't really understand the dynamics between Mulian Ying/Xiao Liu and Shao Yang. How can you expect him to not resent you for killing his clan lol! Why did Mulian Ying's family even need to be eliminated? Are they related to Northern Qin Imperial family and were just considered a threat? Is Mulian Yu / Eagle King related to him?
Why did they even need to swap the babies (Li Mao and Prince Qin's son)? I read the other thread on Li Mao but still a little confused. Forgive my ignorance but I don't really see the point of the swapping especially because the Grand Tutor later raises Li Mao to be an Emperor anyway (they could've just left him in the palace as the 'Emperor's son' - even though we all know Li Mao and Grand Tutor aren't actually related in the end) haha
Consort An was Emperor Wenxi's consort right haha? And Prince Qi is a distant relative in the same lineage?
The sickly Emperor who ED placed on the throne...this was the distant relative of Emperor Wenxi. But he named Li Mao as Regent because I guess he had no sons?
What happened to Emperor Wenxi? Assuming he was killed by Northern Qin when they invaded and took over the land. So that left Empress Wenxi with Xiao Wu Yi behind as the nobles had guards to escort them south...So Xiao Wu Yi technically had the same vision as Emperor Wenxi - to reduce the power of the nobility hence the reform of Beifu?

Northern Qin's royal family name is Mulian so everyone with that surname is related to the Northern Qin emperor. Mulian Ying's father was powerful and popular - Shaoyang was worried they would be a threat to her newborn son's claim to the throne.
It is not explained but maybe the emperor was not visiting Consort An at the time she must have conceived. Besides if the child ended up looking like the Grand Tutor and nothing like the emperor, they would be killed dead. They chose to smuggle him into Prince Qi's mansion bc they happened to have a newborn at the time and it was far from the capital in Qizhou.
Yes.
After Wenxi emperor died, the Li clan chose someone else from their clan to ascend the throne. That emperor also died - he was the ED's husband and the sickly emperor's father.
Yes Wenxi died - the army was never sent to save him but to escort the nobility safely from the old capital. Most emperor's throughout Chinese history struggled to limit the power of the aristocracy. Its a common theme.
