Ming Xi accepts his death punishment so that Zi Yuan can re-assemble the Di troops and fight to re-assert Jing’s strength in the North. Zi Yuan’s war triumphs causes unease for the Emperor and wrath from Leng Bei, compelling them to both target Zi Yuan. This episodes is playing "the big Hudini" with spectators:

tadaaaaa... off he is. Killed for justice. And tadaaaa ... oh, no. Not dead in fact. Yeah. Han Ye and An Le united in battle. Oh... yeah... not united anymore. He sends her off with the words that he won't see her anymore.
