Extremely realistic

It’s still early, but so far this is probably the most realistic feeling tv show I’ve ever watched. I love typical kdrama tropes, but it’s also refreshing to watch a drama that doesn’t rely on any of them. The characters are extremely 3 dimensional and imperfect in realistic ways, which gives them room to develop over the course of the drama. The awkwardness of everything feels so real, especially for the characters they’re portraying. Really hoping this doesn’t stagnate, as it’s not the fastest paced.

Brilliantly made. Beautifully told.

This is Korean drama at its absolute finest. It belongs in the same rare conversation as My Liberation Notes, One Spring Night, We Are All Trying Here, and My Mister.

Dramas that do not just tell stories but sit with you. Dramas that make you feel genuinely seen and strangely comforted by the weight of being human.

What makes it so rare is how it refuses to let you go. You finish an episode and instead of feeling satisfied, you feel hungry.

Just deeply, genuinely hungry for more of the world they have built.

That specific feeling is the mark of masterful storytelling, and very few dramas ever earn it.

Writing operates on a level that is almost humbling to watch. Every line of dialogue carries weight.

Every scene exists for a reason.Nothing feels placed there to fill time or move plot mechanics forward.

Story breathes like something alive, and the characters grow the way real people grow, slowly, painfully, and beautifully.

Ahn Pan-seok had a way of finding inside ordinary stories something so precise and quietly devastating that you wonder how anyone else ever attempted the same subject.

He did it with Han Ji-min and Jung Hae-in in One Spring Night. He did it with Kim Jun-han and Son ye-jin. And, mostly all of his other dramas.

Every time, without exception, actors he worked with found something in themselves they had not shown before. He did it again here.

Every drama director working today should study how he told a story. Rest in peace.

Kim So-hyun is doing the best work of her career in this drama. Not the most visible work. The best. There is a difference.

She has always had the ability but this role gave her the space to stop performing and start existing on screen.

She is not fully finished yet as an actress and there is still more inside her waiting to come out, but this drama is where she started to bloom.

You can see it happening in real time. And she has never looked more herself than she does here.

Choo Young-woo carries Park Min-jae with a stillness that is genuinely difficult to pull off. You believe him completely and without effort.

And, then there is Kim Se-jin. Easy to dismiss as an irritating character. But the story needs him. He creates the friction that makes every quiet moment between the leads feel earned and sacred.

Contrast is not a small thing. Without it, tenderness has nothing to push against.

Some people watch drama to escape reality. that is a valid reason to watch.

But it is not mine. For me, a great drama is not something you sit in front of. It is something you step inside.

People who find this drama too bleak or too slow are most likely looking for comfort.

There is nothing wrong with that. but realism presented with beauty is its own kind of comfort.

It tells you that your ordinary life, with all its weight and contradiction, is worth telling a story about.

a truly wonderful drama

✨ Between Steps — A Truly Beautiful Drama 🤍

Between Steps is a beautiful and emotionally captivating drama that touches the heart with its meaningful storytelling, heartfelt moments, and unforgettable characters.

Kim So Hyun shines with her incredible acting, bringing depth, sincerity, and warmth to every scene. Her ability to express emotions through the smallest gestures makes her performance truly special. The chemistry between the leads adds another layer of beauty to the story, making every moment feel genuine and memorable.

What makes this drama stand out is its emotional depth, natural character development, and the way it captures the beauty of human connection. It is the kind of story that makes you smile, feel deeply, and think about its characters long after watching.

A beautiful reminder that sometimes the most meaningful journeys begin with the smallest steps.

truly amazing drama

TV Series Review: Between Steps

Between Steps is a Korean romantic drama about love, friendship, and personal growth.

The story follows two university students, Min-jae and Yu-jin, who have different personalities and life experiences. They meet at university and slowly develop feelings for each other.

I really enjoyed this series because it has a beautiful story, interesting characters, and emotional moments. The actors did a great job, and the romance between the main characters is lovely.

However, some scenes are sad, and the story can be a little slow.

In my opinion, Between Steps is a wonderful series. I recommend it to people who enjoy romantic and emotional stories.

A raw and unfiltered look at the messiness of life love and connections.

Between steps ( metaphor) : is the gap that represents the moments of doubt, risk, and transition where you have left where you were, but have not yet arrived at where you are going.
*
*

This is the kind of series that demands a reaction; it either draws you in completely or leaves you entirely indifferent, leaving no middle ground.

Directed by the late, acclaimed Director Ahn (Something in the Rain, One Spring Night ), the series is a masterclass in purposeful storytelling, clearly crafted for a specific audience that appreciates depth over spectacle.

The story follows Park Minjae, a former swimmer whose life was irrevocably changed by a leg amputation due to a tumor. He eventually crosses paths with Lim Youjin, a former fashion major who transitions into an engineering team to find a new sense of purpose. What follows is not a grand, high-stakes drama, but a beautifully mundane exploration of two people navigating the complexities of existence, relationships, and identity.

The strength of the show lies in its refusal to sugarcoat reality. It dives headfirst into the uncomfortable: the prejudices surrounding disabilities, the weight of social norms, and the friction of differing views on love and work. There are no traditional villains here; instead, there are simply flawed, human beings navigating life's messy intersections.

The performances are exceptional. Choo Young-woo portrays Minjae with a quiet, soulful intensity, conveying a lifetime of hidden pain and quiet resilience even when he is silent. Kim So-hyun is equally brilliant as Youjin. While some viewers may initially find her directness or persistence polarizing, her character arc is a profound study in growth. She is a "go-getter" who loves hard and makes mistakes, embodying the irritability and passion of someone truly living through change.

The central relationship is a fascinating study in contrasts. As Minjae and Youjin move from strangers to partners, the show explores the friction caused by their different "languages of love" his reserved, subtle approach versus her bold, unapologetic affection. The series doesn't shy away from the reality of their struggles, including insecurity and communication breakdowns, following their journey through the nuances of dating and even the complexities of a breakup.

Between steps offers you a front-row seat to a life that feels real. It is emotional, uncomfortable, and occasionally frustrating, yet deeply understandable. Coupled with stunning direction and a beautiful OST, it is a poignant reminder that sometimes the most profound stories are found in the quiet, everyday moments of human connection.

If you are looking for a series that favors emotional honesty and character depth over grand plot twists, Between steps is an absolute must-watch.

How to Lose Your Dignity Over a Man A Step by Step Guide

A disappointment. Well, where do I even begin...

First of all, not much actually happens. I have nothing against slow-paced slice-of-life dramas, but this one keeps trying to sell us situations as realistic when they often feel completely random and nonsensical. Some things come out of nowhere, and the characters' reactions are sometimes difficult to understand. Apparently, "that's just real life" has become an excuse to justify absolutely anything.

But my biggest issue is still the FL. I genuinely have no idea what she wants to do with her life. She has no goals, no ambitions, no real sense of direction. You almost have to wonder why she's even in university when her studies seem to be the least of her concerns. Her entire world revolves around the ML, as if getting his attention has become her sole purpose in life.

She clearly has low self-esteem, but that doesn't make her particularly sympathetic. If anything, her insecurities affect the way she behaves and make her downright frustrating to watch. She keeps chasing a man who has rejected her THREE times. Girl, PLEASE. At some point, focus on your studies, find some goals, and get a life outside of this man. There are literally so many more interesting things to do in this world.

As for the main couple, I find their relationship forced and downright illogical. There's absolutely no chemistry between them, and the romantic scenes, kisses included, fall completely flat. We're supposed to buy into this romance when their relationship is so underdeveloped that there's barely anything to root for.

The episodes also go around in circles. The two leads barely interact, the plot hardly moves forward, and most scenes feel like filler. The dialogue doesn't help either. It's just as hollow, with characters sometimes sounding like they're talking simply for the sake of filling the silence.

I was expecting a lot more depth, especially when it comes to disability and how it affects the characters' lives. So far, it feels more like a minor background detail than an actual subject the drama wants to explore. I honestly struggle to understand what this story is even trying to say...

The characters are supposed to be in their mid-twenties, if not early thirties, yet they sometimes act like middle schoolers trying to figure out human relationships for the first time. There's nothing wrong with feeling lost at that age, but surely there's more to say than watching grown adults go around in circles, constantly unsure of what they want.

Anyway, with such a thin plot and so little substance, I'm calling it quits. Six episodes was more than enough, and I have absolutely no regrets. At this point, watching this felt like subjecting myself to a never-ending humiliation ritual.

This drama will be added to my list of ‘recommendable’

I know some see this drama as boring or there is no story/plot, but for me there is. Everything has a meaning —dialogue, music, background, characters. I know for the first episode you will think “what’s happening?” or “what do you want me to see?” but then you will realize you are already hooked and watched all the released episodes.

This drama is for the viewers to feel, realize, and interpret on their own. Actually it felt like I am on the scene just looking at them listening to what they are saying…how do I call it, a bystander? a gossiper? lol

I love how everyone has their own opinion but never had a right guess on what will be the next episode hahaha. Anyway 10/10 and for the chemistry of So-hyun and Young-woo I will agree with what he said 200/100 😄

Definitely will rewatch again once it’s done 💯

Amazing Korean Drama

I honestly didn't expect Between Steps to become one of my favorite romance dramas, but here we are. There's something about this drama that makes it feel different from the usual K-dramas I've watched. The romance feels so natural, and the chemistry between the leads is probably one of the best parts of the whole show. You can actually believe these two people are falling for each other. The way they look at each other, their little reactions, the awkward moments, and even their disagreements feel so genuine. I also appreciate that their relationship isn't portrayed as some perfect fairytale. They have their flaws, they make mistakes, and sometimes they struggle to express their feelings, which honestly makes their story even more enjoyable to watch.
What bothers me is how underrated this drama is, especially when so much of that comes down to its limited availability. I'm sure there are plenty of international K-drama fans who would absolutely love it but simply have no way to watch it. It's frustrating because the acting and the romance deserve a much wider audience. I really hope more people get the chance to discover Between Steps, because it's one of those dramas that quietly grows on you until you realize how much you've fallen in love with the characters and their story.

Initial thoughts

This is not a review as this drama is still airing, so i will write a complete review later.

Between steps or the literal title love PhD doctor. Both titles sum up the whole story; A complicated love with a step/space between the two leads OR being more prepared by thinking ahead or anticipating needs. This is how the leads are; Imperfect.

It's cringe at times. The leads are weird and act weird. A little too raw or unfiltered, but super REAL.
I think the story is depicting love at first sight but a painful, complicated one.
The ML is a disabled cancer survivor. Good looking and smart but super hurt. Life is not fair to many people in reality too.
The FL, on the other hand, haven't had the taste of the things the ML went through, but she falls for him and doesn't see his disability as something bad but rather something unfair and painful. The interesting thing is, she goes beyond that and accept it only to be rejected by the ML a few times.
This push and pull continues till they both realize they love each other, but the path ahead is not easy. The drama will get complicated for sure.

Overall, one of the best Kdramas i have seen this year so far.

Deserves a higher rating

*Between Steps* is honestly one of the most natural and believable romances I've seen in a K-drama lately. The chemistry between Kim So-hyun and Choo Young-woo is incredible, and what makes it special is how real everything feels. The awkward moments, the attraction, the misunderstandings, and even the little arguments feel like watching two real people fall in love. Nothing feels overly dramatic or forced. I love that their relationship isn't perfect, because real love rarely is. It's a shame that so many people can't watch this drama or haven't discovered it yet. They're missing out on a genuinely beautiful romance that deserves so much more attention.

The Ultimate Healing Drama with True Depth and Heart

What an absolute treat of a show! Between Steps features an excellent script, gorgeous filming, and phenomenal acting across the board. Finally, a drama with actual depth and genuinely fantastic writing!

I am currently watching it and just finished Episode 4, which was an absolute emotional masterpiece and left me sobbing. The way they showed each other their scars was so tender, proving how unconditionally they love each other.

The scene where Yu-jin breaks down after seeing Min-jae's leg completely destroyed me—it was so raw, realistic, and heart-wrenching. On top of the grounded plot, the male lead is so adorable and gentle that you can't help but root for him.

It is such a beautifully crafted, heartwarming, and healing drama. If you are looking for a story with genuine emotional weight and top-tier performances, this is a must-watch! ❤️
