Sung Hoon in a mini/vertical drama!!!

Well I was shocked when I saw Sung Hoon in this drama. I get acting parts might be thin on the ground (considering new actors are coming through all the time), but a vertical/mini drama this was not what I was expecting. Hopefully the pay was good. As the drama goes, it wasn't one of the best out there. (There are better stories on the Vigloo app, DramaBox, well some of their stories can be hit and miss). Sung Hoon was the best thing about it. He plays the male lead really well, especially if they are a CEO type (which he is in this drama). The story has been done time and again in these vertical/mini dramas. Usually the supporting characters are more brutal towards the female lead. The male lead is then either picking up the pieces, defending her but not knowing who she really is (like in this story) or shielding her from a vile ex and his stupid family (like in this drama). The female lead was pretty enough. Not the best actress out there, but a lot of the time these vertical/mini dramas have new actors/actresses who are trying to build up their acting portfolio so working alongside someone as seasoned as Sung Hoon could only help her. The most frustrating thing was whenever she spoke, she hardly opened her mouth. Either her veneers were hurting her or she just was told to play her that way. Either way it was very distracting. The rest of the cast were OK. They seemed comfortable in these types of dramas. The actor who played the second grandson opposite Sung Hoon was good. He worked opposite him well. Overall this story was fine. Done quite a few times before, but in the end because a seasoned Korean actor like Sung Hoon was in it, people (like myself) would be drawn to watch it because of the curiosity of watching him in this type of drama, and missing seeing him in mainstream kdramas. Now I will go off and watch him again in Perfect, Marriage, Revenge or Death's Game (his last mainstream kdrama-that I know of) to see him in something that shows his best acting skills. Sorry this drama did not showcase this for me.

Waste of Talent

Let's be honest. This is a vertical. No one is expecting a top tier drama. The plot is straight out of a Chinese vertical drama, except it's Korean. However, this drama fails at capturing the essence of verticals. Just because it has a trashy makjang plot and is filmed vertically doesn't mean you've got things figured out. Good verticals are great at taking a long plot and compacting it into 1-2 hours with key plot points and straight to the point dialogue. This did not do any of that. How the heck do you film a vertical and actually make it draggy? One scene lasted for over 30 minutes and was basically chopped into 1-2 minute episodes. It was even repetitive within the same scene. It got really dumb and illogical at one point. FL puts a ring on ML and *poof* suddenly they're married without any paperwork.

I will give credit where it is due. The acting was decent. It doesn't have an A list cast, but it still has an experienced one with some notable actors. It's a shame they were cast in this mess. Whoever funded this project must've wanted to use it as a flagship drama to promote their vertical streaming service. However, they failed to realize what makes verticals enticing and addicting in the first place. What a pity and waste of talent.
