Love and crime both happen on the scene. At the Yamanomichi Police Station in a quiet rural town, Detective Division Chief Heisuke Takoi is a kind-hearted investigator beloved by the local community. In contrast, Shiono Shu, an elite officer in the Community Safety Division, constantly throws sarcastic remarks at Takoi, making him seem like his natural enemy. The two also live next door to each other in the police dormitory, where they get along just as poorly in private. But behind Shiono's cold attitude lies a hidden affection for Takoi. Annoyed by Takoi's habit of being unfailingly kind to everyone, Shiono becomes even more frustrated after Takoi is introduced to a woman in her twenties for an arranged matchmaking meeting. Then one day, the two find themselves alone in an interrogation room. Furious, Takoi demands, "Why do you keep picking fights with me?"
