If you never watch C-drama because the eps are way too many, don't worry. Because Nirvana in Fire won't disappoint you. Personally, I hate long dramas. But this one makes me keep watching it without skipping any of the eps. Both dramas are very unique. It told about brotherhood and guy friendship a lot. The main attractions from both dramas are the strong bonds between the two best friends. Both dramas also have great actings and great cinematographic. You will be blown away by the beauty of each scene and the storytelling as well.
The Prison Playbook is more funny and shorter but it has also some dark cynical theme and storytelling. This drama is literally going to mess around with your emotions. One time you are laughing the next one you are either angry or crying. it's kind of bittersweet.
Nirvana in Fire is more serious but also makes you think a lot. The main protagonist here is very smart (Prison Playbook's protagonist is kind of dumb but also smart in a way). He is very cunning but that's what makes the drama is very interesting. He is cunning for a greater good and the way he is able to get ahead of his enemies is just mind-blowing. if you worry if the story is way too serious, it does have some comedy but the drama genre is more like a slice of life kind of thing than comedy. The story will touch you deeply and if you really really like the brotherhood theme kind of thing. You really need to check this one out. It also has a season 2 with a different protagonist but the background story is related. You can watch the season 2 without watching season 1 but I think I like season one better. But both are really really good.

It’s the politics and the family backstabbing that made me connect the two. In NIF the ML is the center of the drama but in TRP it’s the FL. But in both cases they’re navigating this utter mess of family politics and the throne and it’s very gripping stuff. TRP has more romance in it but it’s still heavy on the politics of the empire.
Shout out to secret passages in both, too ?

Both leads (the protagonist in NiF, the antagonist in Devil) use their enemy's dirty secrets and past deeds as their weapon to bring said enemy down while not actually doing anything besides setting the stage, thus not dirtying their own hand directly.
Only in The Devil the lead did what he did for pure revenge, while in NiF the lead did it to clean his family's name.

Both are based on the China dynasty period.
The difference is that, TSOMD is mainly a detective show where they solve case by case but eventually saving the emperor from rebellion. It focuses more on the thing that happen around the royal Palace.
As for nirvana in fire, they focus more on the things that happen in the royal Palace, and the main character is trying to help the Prince becoming the next emperor. You'll see the details about how the emperor works, their concubines and the way the Princes are trying to get their hand on the throne.
Both are equally nice, tho the goal is different.

Deep Lurk has fast paced plot, everyone is smart and scheming, not to say most of them are secret agents and have double identity, haha..
Its also so trilling, so many strategies, traps and actions... little talk.
Chess game nicely done just like NIF, just in different era.
If you like brain burning drama, try it out, you will definitely love it.
