Discovery of Romance- Just finished this drama. I watched this because of Sung Joon from I need romance 3. It's a good drama, how come I did not "discover" it sooner...the cast is great and the story line is awesome. If it wasn't for Sung Joon, I wouldn't have paid attention to this gem of a drama. Even if Sung Joon Oppa was not lead here, he did a great performance. Was not too fond of the lead guy, Eric Mun, but he was good too. Female lead was just ok.

This drama makes my heart ache. I actually skipped one episode, I can't remember which episode is that but the reason why I skipped that episode is because the girl is becoming jerk more and more. The ending made my sleepless night, and I was bothered for one week. I cried because of the ending. Anyway, if I'm going to rate it through reality, I will give it a 9. You really can't teach your heart who to love.

.This series has so many good aspects however it really was exhausting to watch at times. The discovery of love is definitely a remake of evolution of love and other series like it. They series revolves around it to individuals and a potential partner discovering their love and finding their way and understanding what love is to them. Although there are many series like it, I must admit this one is not the worse however this is the first one that seemed to have such an indecisive FL that it was frustrating. It’s cute, funny at times but also very emotional and thought provoking in some aspects. I rate it a 7 out of 10 because this series although good seemed a bit gloom and definitely not romantic. The chemistry between the leads and supporting cast was amazing. I can honestly say I didn’t know how it would end until the very last episode.

Will I recommend it ~Yes
Good chemistry ~yes
Mystery ~no
Romance~sort of
Great ending~ I guess

SURPRISINGLY ADDICTING!!

I originally wanted to only watch this drama bc of Eric but honestly the cast was nice! Even Ha Jin :(

This drama was unique with the side interviews to really show the characters' inner feelings in which most dramas have the audience infer or guessing~

I loved the approach of how realistic/relatable this drama was! The hardships of heartbreak, break ups, starting a new relationship/over, dealing with bumping into exes etc... Also how this made me question how everyone defines love extremely differently and how important being able to be yourself around someone is also an aspect of love - not everything can be fixed or completed with just pure effort/emotions.

This drama just had such a roller coaster of emotions and really have you frustrated yet somehow understanding vibe.

I also love how all of the characters - no one was exactly PERFECT and showing their development / growth was so fitting for this theme.

The characters were great! Although the main girl - she kept raising her eyebrows a lot LOL...

Overall, even the side stories were cute and tear-jerking. Totally would recommend!!

They say that sometimes you will find love in an unexpected place and time. This is exactly what this drama is all about. The storyline is very much realistic. Each episode is very much well plotted. I love how the writer and director inserts small scenes of going-back-to-the-past memories in between the scenes, so that the viewers will know little by little about what happened in the past that made Yeo Reum and Tae Ha that way. Although, i love the second lead, im still all for Yeo Reum and Tae Ha. As i watched each episode about them, i can feel that Tae Ha has so much love for Yeo Reum and vice versa. I can very well see love in Tae Ha's eyes whenever he stares at Yeo Reum. And i love that kind of fluttering feeling whenever i watch dramas like this. That's why this has become one of the sweetest love story for me.
Highly recommended!

A drama with some depth about relationships

This drama is not your typical romcom. I can see why some people would have given this drama a low rating. I gave this drama a high rating because it is a mature drama that deals with intimate relationships. This drama explores "who one needs to be" in order to live up to the promises made while "in love". This drama was unique in its storytelling, although it did follow some usual tropes. I liked it because it is a mature view about what it takes to have a meaningful relationship.

If you like dramas that has depth and like character development then this drama is for you!!

Jung Yu Mi as Han Yeo Reum (FL) did a fantastic job of portraying a character that is firm minded but is flawed when it comes to love matters. She truly was in touch with her feelings without knowing why. I love the line from the drama "sometimes the tears flow first without knowing the reason why".

The story is about a couple who dated for 5 years and meet again with the ex-boyfriend (EX) 5 years later. Meanwhile, FL has a new boyfriend (NB) but their relationship is not honest and at many levels is superficial. It was infuriating to watch FL & NB withhold secrets for almost silly reasons. But I came to peace and appreciated the writer's intent because given the nature o f FL&NB, the trust was missing and thus the foundation of a solid relationship was missing.

The EX has his own lessons to learn. I loved Eric Mun's lesson of humility and finally the realization that "who he needs to be" in order to truly love.

In my opinion, there was significant transformation of the three main characters which makes this drama AMAZING. Each had their lessons:
NB admitted to himself that he matters. He finally confessed to FL that everyday was a painful day in being with relationship with her. This feedback to FL aided FL to truly look at herself and her growth.
FL's discovery of self-confidence and just being a girl friend was not good enough. For example, based on results, her two significant relationships fell apart.
EX's discovery that he was responsible for the breakup of a relationship that was to be cherished for the remainder of his life. Yet he had to let her go so that he can truly wish for FL's happiness. A great lesson in humility, respect, and altruistic. This all makes him or anyone a better person.

Finally, I loved the concept of "interview". The interview sequence gave a viewer an impression of an event that has already happened. Usually a director will resort to flash backs which essentially halts the current event while as a viewer we construct the history in our heads. The interview technique kept the focus on the present while completing the picture of a past event that is significant at the present moment.

I thank other reviewers of this drama. Their insights encouraged me to watch this drama and I am glad that I took their recommendation.

I finally watched and finished Discovery of Romance. I had heard a lot of different opinions and read a lot of different reviews about this drama. I heard from many people that they thought it was terrible, but the same amount of people really enjoyed it, so I was stuck on whether or not I should actually give it a try..but as the year is coming to an end, it's time for me to start watching all the dramas I've missed through the 2014 season, and I thought I would start with this one.
To my surprise, I didn't hate this drama. I know a lot of people thought maybe I wouldn't be into it, but I actually was. I think I am being a little bias however since I was just really excited to see Eric and Jung Yu Mi in a drama/romance together since Que Sera Sera…which is one of my all time favorite dramas ever…plus it had Sung Joon, one of my White Christmas babies in it so I like to support them as much as I can. Now I know a lot of people didn't like Yu Mi’s character, from the viki comments…god they are scary and annoying, however, I enjoyed her. I think that people bashed her because she didn't live up to the expectations that we have of people in a relationship, however, she was real..maybe too real for some people. Yes, she played games to get here way and what not, but if you want to admit it or not…we all do in relationship..now maybe not as much as she does but she is a fictional character where things are dramatized obviously. I also found that both Eric and Sung Joon’s characters were both likable and dislikable at the same time, which is also realistic to people..one day you really like someone and then the next day they do something that you personally don't like and you dislike them. That's just life. I thought this drama just gave an extra realistic outlook on life and relationships between people, I mean just like their Que Sera Sera characters they were only human and make mistakes and have trial and error to go on with life and to find the type of love and lifestyle they ultimately want to live, and in real life, just like the drama, you can end up hurting people along the way.
The cast in this drama was fantastic, for the most part. Eric obviously did a great job, I'm usually always impressed by him. I think he pulls in emotions very well, especially for an idol actor..which I do consider him since is in an idol group..and I tend to be very opinionated about the acting abilities of idols. Jung Yu Mi was great like always, as well. I love her acting style because she can emote emotions from her eyebrows to her toes, her whole body shows how she is feeling as a character and it always impresses me…she is a full body actress and I love that. Sung Joon did a decent job, this, to be honest, want his best performance I have seen of him, but he did well enough that it didn't take away from the drama, and given the circumstances of the drama and his character I thought he did a pretty decent job. Yoon Hyun Min, it's good to keep seeing him since Heartless City, he is a very appealing actor and he plays a role that you can't help but love.I think he keeps getting better and better as an actor as he becomes more and more popular, and that can be said for Kim Seul Gi, coming from a comedian standpoint, she always brings the laughs but she is also a great actress and she can pull of more emotional and serious scenes as well, and I can't wait for the day that she becomes a leading female and not just a side character or the best friend character. Lastly, Yoon Jin Yi was the only person I really had a problem with in this drama. I'm indifferent about her character, to be honest, but her acting wasn't something that I particularly liked. I thought she was decent in A Gentleman’s Dignity, and that's the last time I've seen her, but in this, it seemed more rookie than she was in AGD. I don't know, she just didn't do it for me, and she just didn't pull off the emotions I thought she should be showing, very well. I don’t know it was just a stale and lackluster performance on her part, in my opinion.
Overall, I am surprised that I really actually enjoyed this drama, I was in the opposite half of the spectrum that I thought I would be. And to point out about the documentary style setting where they would speak to the camera, I know some people didn't like that but I actually found it interesting and helped with being able to hear what the characters really thought without having to put them into some over-dramatic, out of place scenario or some boring voice over..it was creative and I didn't mind it at all. Overall I thought that Discovery of Romance took me on a journey about love and life, and how it can all come crashing down in a second and how nothing in love and life is easy and has a simple one answer..its a roller coaster ride and they don't say “love is a battlefield” for no reason because in the end..no matter what someone is going to get hurt, even if you don’t know about it.

It was a fustrating drama to watch to say the least. So obvious who she should be with (I mean like who would not like to be with Hot Babe, Eric Moon?????), , but as you watch the drama unfold, you start to understand why the characters are the way they are. Then you also realize, many times there are no absolute rights or wrongs in how people behave. I think that's basically the whole premise of the drama. I thought the wrting was really good, storyline therefore also very good. Great secondary character storyline as well. I loved Eric Moon, so Hot and matured so much since Super Rookie. Would have given a higher score if main characters spent more time with each other in the latter years.

Masterpice psychological drama

This drama dives into the complacency and sleaziness of "comfort love."

FL got burned with her first love, ML, so out of confort, she grabs the second ML and dates him in super slimey ways... SUPER slimey. They never communicate and they lie to each other and make deals to stay complacent and never rock the boat. Both of them are evil cowards...

And then the ML shows up and busts them :)

I just feel sorry that FL never fully grew up. The drama leaves at the point where she decided she might try inner work to get back her ex, but then... even for that she did not put in enough effort.

THE DRAMA SHOWS PSYCHOLOGICAL TRAPS AND GAMES AS IF UNDER A MAGNIFYING GLASS. I learned a lot from this kdrama. You get to study and dissect narcissism etc as well as good communications and "get it done" attitude

I thought i would like this series as much as I did with I Need Romance 2 since it has a similar storyline & also lots of good reviews. To be honest, I Need Romance 2 was a lot more interesting. I find the love story between the three main leads really boring. And the supporting character love story was too cheesy for my taste. I only finished this series because I thought it would get better.

Acting: The main leads were great, but the supporting characters acting was just decent.

Music: Not very memorable.

Rewatch Value- definitely 0/10.

VERY deep psychological drama, exposing the raw egotism and complacency

Discovery of Love is a very deep and sophisticated psychological drama. There is some comedy but not a lot. Acting is phenomenal. Dialogues are great. The drama resolves some deep life questions....
There is no fluff - the main characters are all successful adults. There are no villains or crazy plots. It is really ONLY about their love and overcoming their own inner obstacles to it.

I watched Discovery of Love a long time ago and then rewatched it. It is super powerful and changed my life. It is difficult but not draggy. There is a difference. it is difficult bc it goes DEEP into psyche and rooting out some very deep egoistical habits, e.g. addiction to complacency

Discovery of Love has a super profound message. It shows utmost evil and egotism and personal inner death disguised as pleasant convenience. The acting is FANTASTIC the dialogues, the scenes... wow!!!! that most slimey scene when she hides in the closet to seduce him and he takes it and forgives her cheating... wow!!!! Also it shows the process of MAKING A DECISION and then sticking to it. It shows some clarity

I didnt like the ending, I think she has not put in enough effort and has not grown enough, he had to notice she wore his bag and necklace..

I will compare DoL with a rom-com that starts as com and continues as a soapy Crazyville melodrama. 2014 kdrama Marriage Not Dating. MND on the other hand is more showy and "action packed" but a lot more shallow and eventually it is about more shallow parts of the psyche - trauma requiring someone to not be alone or to be alone, confusion, very bad communication, not being aware of what you feel, being sidetracked into dating, flirting, s.x, dating experiments, etc ... It is a very young ppl drama :) ... Every time a new person kisses you, you lose compass and wonder if THAT person is the real one lmao Very confused and very physical, driven by hormones... It addresses some childhood trauma but does not go as deep as Discovery of Love, which nails some very basic fundamental principles of egotism , e.g addiction to self-comfort and easy way out, without thinking of consequences

Marriage Not Dating makes plot out of FL not being able to say I NEED TO GO TO RESTROOM NOW and then pooping around and causing other consequences. FL is so immature..... That makes it "difficult to watch" bc it is simply stupid. Sure you can say it is a satire that tries to show externally what the characters go through internally. Sure! I take that. But imo Discovery of Love conveys a lot more by implying it, by carefully selected scenes, like FL hiding in the closet to seduce SML and he accepts it. THAT SCENE IS 100% CREEPY. It is watching deep layers of egotism unmasked.
Mariage Not Dating has so much plot bc of obvious manipulations of ML's mother and ex and FL and ML falling for it. That makes it difficult to watch bc again it is shallow simple cartoon-like, villains are 1-sided bad and ML and FL are 1-sided good. The main characters wrestle a lot more with external evil instead of their own egotism.

Discovery of Love has no fluff "stupidity" plot or 1-dimensional characters in a cartoon battle. The characters wrestle with themselves and with each other and each one of them is complex "good and bad". And they TALK and interact deeply with each other. That makes it "difficult to watch" bc it is DEEP all the way from start to end
FL is weak but she is a super crafty parasite. So she is hard to detect and uproot.

Discovery of Love is about "ordinary functional successful people without any problems".
Marriage Not Dating is a flashy drama about flamboyant and "off the charts" characters.. FL is almost alcoholic and is very promiscuous and rash, FL has 3 guys to pick from and cheats with 2, ML has 2 girls to pick from, ML's mom and ex are extreme sociopaths, etc.

Marriage Not Dating can be titled "s.x and the city" and Discovery of Love is "how to keep love alive for decades"

Discovery of Love shows deeper layers of egotism... The more quiet, polite and calm egotism is, the deeper and stronger it is... and that kind is shown in that drama
Marriage Not Dating is more raw, more "childishly naive" more "young and lacking wisdom" drama, it is drama for ppl under 20 or 25 or maybe 30 if they are really late bloomers lmao ppl who are just starting their love life and have NO experience. The drama is about STARTING the journey.
Discovery of Love is for ppl who have some love experience, walked that road a while and now finally encountered the real road blocks. The real road block is not your mother or your ex, it is YOURSELF.

Marriage Not Dating starts as a heavy duty rom com - there is so much com, it is hilarious!!!! and then goes into ... soap :) It has so much action and locomotion but we do not get to see how the characters work inside themselves, how they wrestle and how they grow. So that is why it is a difficult watch for me - bc it is SHALLOW. Her mom, his mom, his ex, her current, ... his confusion, her confusion, ..... it is a hot mess of characters and events.... but it is shallow. We do not see some deep conversations or self reflections. Well that drama starts from "i will give you money to lie that we are dating" and then progresses into "ok lets date"

Discovery of love has very little comedy... It is a drama about mature love and about turning every unturned stone to find love under it... It is a deep digging psychological drama about being true and honest with ONESELF
It starts with "I ran away from responsibility, so I force myself to pretend I am ok and I use a boy toy as a consolation prize" and "I was dumped without any explanation, I missed you for 10?yrs, now I know what to change to win your heart and I am doing it" and "She seems so nice but why do I feel so shitty and fake with her"

Eric Moon as the ML and the actor who is SML are absolutely perfect. FL actress is the same in every drama I saw her and she is always a flakey female. She was perfect for this role
