Hey there, pals! In this article, we will be talking about what would happen if the anime "A Sign of Affection" was adapted as a K-drama, J-drama, and C-drama. It's like turning our go-to comfort food into a three-course delight. Every country has given us some adorable rom-coms, and we think an adaptation of this anime will add to their interesting list. Now, talking about the small backstory behind the making of this article, here it is:

Okay, it might be shorter than a catnap, but big hugs to the New Anime Feed of MDL for being our muse.

I’ve been running laps around my room and giggling while watching this because the cuteness is just so overwhelming. For one reason or another, many often struggle with feeling deserving of romantic love, but this anime shows that anyone can find love. Regardless of a disability or whatever quirk you may have, there’s someone out there for all of us. 10/10 would recommend it if you're looking for a lighthearted, short, and sweet anime. | ![]() So, as you can see, I initially hesitated to watch the show, fearing it would lean more towards slice of life than romance. Well, spoiler alert for my past self: I was dead wrong! If one thing I want to complain about, especially to Berd, is why didn't she stop me from watching it while it was airing? Often, we find ourselves asking, "Why not me?" Yet, the key lies in taking action. Itsuomi Nagi and Yuki Itose, through their portrayals, teach us the importance of not concealing our emotions. Their approach, marked by confidence and genuine feelings, makes the series irresistible and oh-so-satisfying! I was smiling so much while watching it that my parents were side-eyeing me, probably thinking I had finally lost it. But seriously, can you blame me? This show is turning me into a blushing mess. |
Kim Hye Yoon as Yuki Itose | Is there really anything that needs to be said? If you’ve seen Hyeyoon as Eun Dan Oh in Extraordinary You or even as the currently airing Lovely Runner’s Im Sol, you know that she would be perfect for the role of a doe-eyed Yuki who’s enchanted by the world around her. And if you are watching Lovely Runner, I bet you'll agree that her chemistry and dynamic with Wooseok are exactly what's needed to pull this off. |
Byeon Woo Seok as Itsuomi Nagi | Okay, are you a survivor of Wooseok’s deadly edits on Instagram and YouTube in the year 2023? Because I barely survived it, and him as a villain was the only good thing about that drama. He has those intimidating eyes paired with all kinds of smiles to lock you in and just appreciate his screen presence. He will slay the role of Nagi; even if you can’t imagine it right away, start putting all the pieces together. Is he tall? Yes. Will he totally rock that sun-moon tattoo? Again yes. Can he give absolutely anyone butterflies? Obviously. |
Lee Jae Wook as Oshi Ashioki | This is a bit of a recast, but I imagine his role in Extraordinary You as Baek Kyung fits the vibe of Oshi. Jaewook does "pouty yearner" extremely well, which is how I'd describe Oshi. There's also a childishly jealous side to the character that I know Jaewook would be able to perfectly convey. |
Kang Tae Oh as Kyoga Nagi | I’ll be honest; this is the casting I struggled with the most. When I picture Kyoga, I imagine that he’s a mature-looking, strong, yet approachable man who can at times be silly. Try imagining a mix of Lee Joon Ho from Extraordinary Attorney Woo and Run On’s Lee Young Hwa. Do you see the vision? |
Park Jin Joo as Rin Fujishiro | The K-drama world’s resident BF is here. Jinjoo’s resume is perfect for this character. Who better to play the role of the bright and supportive bestie who encourages you, goes shopping with you, creates moments for you to be with your crush, etc., all while pursuing her own love story? |
Kim Sejeong as Ema Nakasono | As Aehsassy described Ema, we needed someone with sex appeal but also some bubbliness. Ema spends a lot of time chasing and pining for Itsuomi, but there are times when we get glimpses of her personality outside of him, and she has a bright and fun side. |
Park Hyung Sik as Shin Iryu | Shin is a talented hairstylist who’s always there when his friends need him. I think Hyungsik has, on more than one occasion, displayed that he can pull off a role like this. And wouldn’t it be fun to see him experimenting with different hairstyles and colours? |
Kumada Rinka as Yuki Itose | Anyone who watched her in Marry Me! can see why she’s perfect for this role because Yuki has this fragile aura around her, but she’s so optimistic and loving that you can’t help but want to hug her tiny self. Kumada Rinka played a similar character in Marry Me; she wasn't deaf, but as an averagely educated girl with no family, she couldn't see the meaning in her life. But after she found love, she gave the love back in double the amount and appreciated everything as if it were her most precious asset. I can see Rika absolutely charming everyone as Yuki Itose |
Yamazaki Kento as Itsuomi Nagi ![]() | Why him? Y'all, he is our classic Shoujo prince; him in Wolf Girl, Black Prince, and L♥DK was an absolute treat, even though the movie format and budget shadowed down his presence. Kento nowadays is experimenting a lot with different stories, and it’s been a while since we saw him in a romance-centric plot. Imagine him tenderly treating her with his grace and patting her on the head, calling her cute all the time. I will pay double the amount of my subscription to watch this live action. |
Hirano Sho as Oshi Ashioki | He loves you but bullies you all the time. I guess we are talking about Hirano Sho from We Love. I think he will play this role perfectly, and him in black hair would give us major second-lead syndrome. Now, talking about his rivalry with Kento, I want to see it. |
Machida Keita as Kyoga Nagi | A kind bartender who cares for his younger cousin? Yes, Machida Keita, because you might have forgotten, but I still remember him in Nishiogikubo Mitsuboshi Youshudou (2021). He is that adult who will make you rely on them; his gentle care will heal you, and his simple lifestyle adds to his charm. |
Nukumi Meru as Rin Fujishiro | Rin Fujishiro is a little clumsy and someone who roots for you all the time, adores you with everything, but is equally adorable, and you can’t help but make her your first choice to open your heart to. Nukumi Meru is an emerging actress, and she slayed the role of supportive friend in Sexy Tanaka-san (2023). She’s perfect for Rin because I can see her screaming in happiness for Yuki as Yuki chases her crush. And if my dream cast is true someday, I know Machida and Meru will raise the temperature with their chemistry. |
Yamamoto Maika as Ema Nakasono | For Ema, we need someone who’s very attractive but also weak in front of someone she loves. She will act strong and drink down her worries, but she will find herself dwelling over how she’s not able to control her emotions. Yamamoto Maika in Kotaro wa Hitorigurashi (2021) had a similar vibe; she was a happy soul, charming, but letting her worries eat her. |
Takahashi Fumiya as Shin Iryu | Shin Iryu is a stylish hairdresser; he’s goofy but dead serious when he senses something worthy. I think Takashi Fumiya has those intense eyes and a beautiful face. I want to see him as someone who’s ready to support his girl. And him in cool hairstyles would be the death of me. |
Tian Xi Wei as Yuki Itose | When I think of Yuki, I imagine someone like Li Wei from New Life Begins, who was wonderfully portrayed by Tian Xi Wei. Oh, and I can’t forget to mention her eyes since that was the deciding factor. Yuki has these sweet eyes that draw you in and make you want to protect her; I think Xiwei’s eyes elicit the same feeling. |
Chen Fei Yu as Itsuomi Nagi | Did you watch Lighter & Princess and wish for Feiyu to play another role similar to Li Xun? Well, here you have it. Itsuomi, just like Li Xun, may come off as unapproachable, but they care deeply for their friends and, when in love, are all about their girl. No one could’ve played Li Xun better, and I can’t imagine anyone else as Itsuomi. |
Neo Hou as Oshi Ashioki | After asking a friend for her input, she recommended Minghao for the role of Itsuomi. But when I look at him, I see an unrequited childhood lover. I know that might not be reason enough for you, but I can't picture anyone else in this role. And if you need some more convincing, go watch him chase after the female lead in Back From the Brink, and you'll see the vision. |
Sun Chen Jun as Kyoga Nagi | Chenjun is still fairly new to the industry, but after his performance in My Journey to You, I think he gives off the vibe of a reliable, strong, but soft older brother, which is basically what Kyoga is. |
Zhao Lusi as Rin Fujishiro | If you’ve watched any Lusi drama, you know she perfectly embodies this role. Whether on or off-screen, she and Rin are very alike. In The Romance of Tiger and Rose, Who Rules the World, Gen Z, Hidden Love, and more, she plays strong characters who are bubbly, friendly, romantic, supportive of their friends, etc. |
Zhou Ye as Ema Nakasono | A pouty, slightly whiny, dark-haired beauty crushing on her friend while oblivious to those interested in her? There’s no doubt in my mind that Zhou Ye would portray this character well. Emma has an initial image that seems cold, but you get a glimpse of her real personality aside from crushing on Itsuomi. I think Zhou Ye can deliver that duality. |
Chen Zhe Yuan as Shin Iryu | Honestly, I’ve only seen one Zheyuan drama, but I think he’d pull off the bromance chemistry with Feiyu as Itsuomi, and I know you’d like to see him yearning and suffering through an unrequited love. |
Note : These don't necessarily have the same plot as anime but have similar warm, cozy vibes.
And here's a short, heartwarming advertisement with an absolutely beautiful song; consider this a recommendation as well: Boku ga Kimi no Mimi ni Naru (2017).
