The suspense drama Light the Dark premiered today (October 15). The drama is directed by Liu Xin and written by Dai Zheng Yang, with Jiang Xin and Chen Zhe Yuan in the lead roles. Ren Zhong, Zhang Guo Qiang, Wu Gang, Jiang Hong Bo, and other actors make special appearances.
The series consists of 12 episodes and is set in the small city of Wugang in southwestern China in the late 1990s.
The father, Chen Fu, is the person in charge of an oil pipeline construction project. The mother, Zhang Wen Ying, is a key designer at a petroleum design institute. The older sister, Chen Ying, works in the archives room of a supply station, while the younger brother, Chen Shan, is also set to follow in his parents' footsteps and join the petroleum industry.
However, a sudden gas explosion claims the life of their father, Chen Fu. Four years later, a new accidental explosion case brings Geng Jian, the director of the design institute who lost out in the factional struggle years ago, into the picture. Following the leads, the younger brother, Chen Shan, reopens the investigation into the old case.
The siblings move from estrangement and mutual distrust to reconciliation. They join forces to set a trap, putting themselves in danger as they search for the truth.
The series unfolds along two parallel storylines: an old case from 1997 and a new case from 2001. Using interwoven flashbacks to advance the plot, it builds suspense layer by layer and portrays ordinary people's unwavering determination to seek justice amid the sweeping changes of the times.
In the series, Chen Zhe Yuan plays Chen Shan, a repair engineer. Jiang Xin portrays his older sister, Chen Ying, who appears restrained on the outside but is turbulent within. Working as an accountant in the archives room, she secretly investigates the truth. The emotional complications between the siblings and their journey to track down the culprit are the drama's central highlights.
Light the Dark is streaming on iQIYI.
