Chinese business-themed historical Legend of the Magnate is coming on November 25.
Set in the late Qing dynasty, it tells the story of the scholar Gu Ping Yuan, who is wrongfully accused and exiled. He drifts through various trade sectors — caravans, banks, the tea trade, and the salt industry — while navigating tense power struggles with the East India Company and other foreign merchants. He ultimately rises against all odds to become a legendary "King of Business".
The C-drama is adapted from Zhao Zhi Yu's novel of the same Chinese name.
Gu Ping Yuan, born in a turbulent era, is wrongfully accused and exiled to Ningguta. Struggling to survive, he nevertheless turns the tide — transforming from a frail, bookish scholar into a man who builds his fortune through the tea trade, establishes his enterprise through the salt industry, and unites merchant guilds from across the land to save the nation and its people, rising from an exiled convict to a titan of the business world.
In his struggle to become the "King of Business," Gu Ping Yuan meets Chang Yu Er, Li Qin, Chang Si, Li Wan Tang, Su Zi Xuan, Li Cheng, Bai Yi Mei, Wang Tian Gui, and others.
Chen Xiao plays Gu Ping Yuan, Sun Qian comes as Chang Yu Er, Luo Yi Zhou as Li Qin, Cheng Tai Shen as Chang Si, Huang Zhi Zhong as Li Wan Tang, Li Chun as Su Zi Xuan, Zhu Ya Wen as Li Cheng, Julia Xiang as Bai Yi Mei, and Wu Yue as Wang Tian Gui.
