On November 3, 2025, during the Weibo Vision Conference awards ceremony, producer Liu Wen Yang announced that the Chinese fantasy Guardians of the Dafeng will be returning for a second season.

At the same time, the drama's official Weibo account released a statement with the caption: "Soldiers of Dafeng, we'll fight to the end together!"

Guardians of the Dafeng tells the story of a modern-day worker, Yang Ling, who unexpectedly finds himself in the fantasy-filled world of the Dafeng Dynasty. There, he goes by the name of Xu Qi An, a night watchman tasked with supervising officials and solving cases for the people of Dafeng. Utilizing the knowledge and skills from his life in the modern world, including scientific knowledge and deductive reasoning, he successfully cracks a series of bizarre cases, earning the reputation of a master investigator in Dafeng.

Dylan Wang played the lead Yang Ling/Xu Qi An.

Lead actor Dylan Wang responded to the announcement from the audience with his character's signature "chest-knocking gong" gesture, hinting that he will continue to play Xu Qi An.

Season 1 of Guardians of the Dafeng won the title of "Most Influential Work of the Year" at the 2025 Weibo Vision Conference. The series remains in the Top 6 on Tencent Video’s popularity chart, while Yunhe Data reports that it bags the highest market share in terms of viewership throughout the year.

Netizens are calling for the original cast to return, with particular anticipation for Dylan Wang's deeper portrayal of Xu Qi An as a hot-blooded and justice-driven young hero. Fans have also urged the production team to maintain the first season's high-quality visual effects, tight storytelling, and humorous tone, while speeding up the production.

Xinli Media CEO Cao Hua Yi recognized Guardians of the Dafeng as a "phenomenal hit" in the company's financial report, noting that its sequel has been included in Yuewen Group's key IP expansion plan.

Earlier, industry insiders had predicted that the series might air after Joy of Life 2 during the summer season. Although the filming and release schedule has not yet been announced, the production team emphasized a commitment to quality above everything else.

Given Xinli Media's reputation for being the fastest to officially announce sequels for male-oriented IPs, the sequel's production is expected to accelerate significantly.
