Director Na Hong Jin's new film Hope has surpassed 1 million moviegoers on its third day in theaters.

According to co-producer Plus M Entertainment, as of 12:00 p.m. on July 17, Hope had recorded 1,003,960 admissions, based on figures from the Korean Film Council's integrated box office information system. Having opened on July 15, Hope surpassed the 1 million admissions mark on its third day of release.

Hope has become the fastest film released this year to surpass 1 million admissions. The previous record was held by director Yeon Sang Ho's Colony, which reached the 1 million mark on its fourth day in theaters after opening in May. Meanwhile, director Jang Hang Jun's The King’s Warden, which went on to draw more than 16 million moviegoers overall, reached 1 million admissions on its fifth day of release.

Hope drew significant attention even before its domestic release after being invited to compete at this year's Cannes Film Festival. The film was highly anticipated as director Na Hong Jin's first feature in 10 years, as well as one of the most expensive Korean films ever made, with a production budget reportedly exceeding 50 billion won.

Hope centers on Beom Seok (Hwang Jung Min), the head of the Hopo Port branch office in the Demilitarized Zone (DMZ). When local youths report a tiger sighting, the village is plunged into a state of emergency as they face an unimaginable reality.

Zo In Sung and Jung Ho Yeon also star in the K-movie.
