KBS's upcoming historical drama The Great King Munmu has unveiled its first teaser video.

The Great King Munmu tells the story of Silla's rise as the small kingdom triumphed over the more powerful Goguryeo and Baekje kingdoms, as well as China's Tang dynasty, to unify the Three Kingdoms.

The Great King Munmu brings together director Kim Young Jo of Hwarang and writers Kim Ri Heon and Hong Jin Yi.

The first teaser for The Great King Munmu opens with a close look at the troubled eyes of Kim Beop Min (the 30th king of Silla, King Munmu) amid the chaos of the battlefield.

On a battlefield overshadowed by a total solar eclipse, Kim Beop Min (Lee Hyun Wook) recalls conversations with Kim Yu Shin, Silla's renowned military commander, and his father Kim Chunchu (the 29th king of Silla, King Taejong Muyeol). Kim Yu Shin's question, "Where do your ambitions lie?", and his father Kim Chunchu's question, "Have you made up your mind?", further heighten Kim Beop Min's profound inner turmoil as both a man and a monarch.

Adding to this, the chilling presence of Yeon Gaesomun, the dictator of Goguryeo, asking, "Can't you hear the sound of war?", along with the bodies of soldiers fallen at the end of battle, encapsulates the terror, fear, and longing for victory faced by those who had to survive through relentless wars in an age of chaos.

Next, the screen shows massive columns of troops marching across a wasteland, and Kim Yu Shin and Yeon Gaesomun heading into battle.

As he looks upon the blood-soaked horrors, Kim Beop Min quietly reflects, "Everyone's desires and resentments — they became a blaze that began to engulf the Three Kingdoms." As he witnesses the intertwined and conflicting fates of countless people risking their lives to fight for their countries, Kim Beop Min tightens his grip on the sword in his hand — his gaze filled with a firm determination to protect his nation.
