Sung Hoon shares why he chose to star in 'What a Boss Wants'

What a Boss Wants follows Kwon Do Hyuk (Sung Hoon), a chaebol boss with zero sense of taste who sets out to find the woman whose voice he heard on an album, and Lee Eun Chae (Oh Se Young), the vocalist of an indie band who becomes the only variable in his otherwise perfect life. 

Kwon Do Hyuk is the CEO of Oyes Entertainment and a man who strives for perfection. He has firmly established preferences, to the point that he insists on listening exclusively to classical music. Having lived his life judging everything by his own principles, Kwon Do Hyuk's daily routine shifts after he meets the unpredictable Lee Eun Chae.

Sung Hoon cited his past connections formed through previous projects and the script as reasons for taking on the role, stating, "There was no reason not to do this project."

In particular, he said he was drawn to Kwon Do Hyuk himself, rather than the character's glamorous background, because of his exceptional abilities. Jokingly, he remarked, "He's the kind of guy who would never go hungry, no matter where he goes."

To develop his character, Sung Hoon revealed, "I spent a lot of time thinking about what kind of life someone who has both a lot of money and exceptional abilities would lead." He added that while he stayed true to the original web novel's overall framework, he wanted to bring his own interpretation to the role while staying faithful to the drama's script.

Sung Hoon also identified "social avoidance", "self-awareness", and "a child who actually throws tantrums" as key words defining Kwon Do Hyuk. He explained, "He is a lonely person who struggles to express his emotions and finds it difficult to build relationships with others."

Regarding his chemistry with his co-star Oh Se Young, who plays Lee Eun Chae, Sung Hoon shared, "She is such a bright and positive actress, so I also receive a lot of positive energy from her. Thanks to her, there are plenty of moments to laugh, and I'm enjoying filming happily." 

Sung Hoon continued, "I'm trying to understand Kwon Do Hyuk's thoughts and actions and portray them accordingly." He added, "Please look forward to seeing what emotions Kwon Do Hyuk experiences and how he changes after meeting Lee Eun Chae."

Finally, Sung Hoon expressed his hope that "many people will feel warm and cozy" while watching the drama, asking viewers to show it their interest and support.
