Kim Sae Ron's posthumous film 'Everyday, We' confirmed to premiere in 2026
TVING has officially confirmed that it will produce a second season of the K-drama Study Group, which is based on a webtoon.
On August 13, TVING and production company YLAB officially announced that the K-drama Study Group will be returning for a second season. The show's lead, NU'EST Hwang Min Hyun, is also confirmed to reprise his role.
The first season of Study Group, which was released in January, was a major success both in Korea and internationally. It topped the list for new paid subscribers on TVING for five weeks straight and was popular with viewers in 143 countries.
YLAB was also proud of the commercial success and artistic quality. They plan to use Season 2 to expand the show's intellectual property, with the goal of turning it into a "super IP."
Besides the confirmation of a second season, Study Group has been nominated for "Best OTT Original" at the 2025 International Streaming Festival Global OTT Awards.
Study Group is also expanding beyond the live-action K-drama. Plans for "One-Source Multi-Use" (OSMU) projects are in the works, and a crowdfunding campaign for a windbreaker from the show reached 450% of its goal in just three days.
Study Group is a high school-themed action comedy that showcases the journey of Yoon Ga Min, who, despite lacking academic talent, excels in fighting. When he joins the worst school, he immerses himself in the intense world of competitive exams, forming a study group as he goes. The K-drama is based its story from the popular webtoon of the same name, penned by Shin Hyung Wook and illustrated by Yoo Seung Yeon.
Director Lee Jang Hoon (Miracle: Letters to the President and Be with You) and writer Oh Bo Hyun (Behind Your Touch, Island, and Aftermath) worked together for the K-drama.
Aside from Hwang Min Hyun, Han Ji Eun, Cha Woo Min, Lee Jong Hyun, Shin Su Hyun, and Yoon Sang Jung also led the first season. There is still no confirmation on who will reprise their roles aside from Hwang Min Hyun.
Study Group was Hwang Min Hyun's final project before his military enlistment. Following his discharge on December 20, 2025, the second season will be his first official project back in the industry.
