Chinese drama Small Town Remedy has been confirmed to premiere on October 21.
Small Town Remedy tells the story of Liu Zheng Liang (Xiao Zhan), a genius doctor who suffers a major setback in life and is forced to return to his hometown and start over from scratch. He brings together a group of "unreliable" people and throws himself wholeheartedly into doing the "most reliable" work. Amid the hustle and bustle of everyday life, they weave together the warmth of human connection and the kindness of ordinary people, offering prescriptions for life that heal the heart, one after another. Across time and setting, the story portrays the emotional bonds Liu Zheng Liang shares with his family, friends, and patients, along with his profound reflections on life, responsibility, and his hometown. Ultimately, as Liu Zhengliang continues to heal his patients, he also finds redemption and personal growth.
The trailer centers on Liu Zheng Liang's emotional struggle with his fear of snow. Through glimpses of everyday life in the small town, it traces his journey from leaving home to returning and from shutting himself off emotionally to rediscovering the warmth of family and friendship.
The dialogue is infused with a distinctly Northeastern Chinese sense of humor, while the quieter moments conceal the exhaustion and tenderness of adulthood. Characters including Liu Zheng Liang's mother, brother, friends, and patients gradually appear, weaving together humor and heartfelt emotion.
The trailer also offers a glimpse into the underlying tone of Small Town Remedy. The series focuses on the characters’ everyday lives and the web of relationships connecting them, allowing viewers to first see how Liu Zheng Liang interacts with his family, friends, and patients, and how he learns to face life anew amid financial hardship and adversity.
Liu Zheng Liang's return marks a young man's journey back to the roots of his hometown. It allows him to rediscover the importance of family and friends, confront the mundane complications of everyday life, and face his inner struggles. Life in a small town is filled with both chaos and warmth, with its share of disappointments and unexpected kindness. Those who have experienced life and death understand best what it means to truly live. This drama aims to capture the ledger of life itself, with all its gains, losses, and everyday realities.
