SBS's new Friday-Saturday drama The Haunted Palace has unveiled still cuts of actor Yook Sung Jae, marking his first historical drama debut.
The Haunted Palace is a fantasy drama that follows Yeo Ri (Bona), the only granddaughter of a famous shaman who refuses to accept her destiny as a spirit medium, and Yoon Gap (Yook Sung Jae), who becomes possessed by an imugi, which is related to Yeo Ri, as they confront a vengeful spirit harboring a deep grudge against the royal family.
In the drama, Yoon Gap is not only a skilled government officer favored by the king for his extraordinary intellect but also a man of gentle nature and looks. His life takes a drastic turn when he is unexpectedly possessed by Kang Cheol Yi, the imugi who is the mortal enemy of his childhood acquaintance, Yeo Ri.
Raising anticipation for the K-drama, the production team unveiled the first stills of Yook Sung Jae as Yoon Gap, before he becomes possessed by the imugi. The production team of The Haunted Palace stated, "Actor Yook Sung Jae is making his historical drama debut with The Haunted Palace. However, it's hard to believe this is his first time in the genre, as he flawlessly embodies both sides of his character — the intelligent and kind-hearted Yoon Gap, and Kang Cheol Yi, the cunning imugi with supreme arrogance."
They added, "As Yook Sung Jae's wide acting spectrum shines through in his dual role, we ask for much interest and support."
Yook Sung Jae also shared his thoughts, saying, "This drama offers a variety of flavors. The contrast between Yoon Gap's restrained and conventional nature and Kang Cheol Yi's presence will likely create an unexpected twist."
The Haunted Palace premieres this April. News about the K-drama's global OTT service is yet to come. Stay tuned!
