Koo Kyo Hwan faces off against Shin Seung Ho in 'Reawaken Man: The Red'
The costume healing political drama A Journey to Glow held its filming commencement ceremony in Huangshan, Anhui Province. The series is jointly produced by Lemon Pictures and iQIYI.
The official cast lineup was also announced, confirming Zhao Jin Mai and Wang An Yu as the lead stars.
Set in the same shared universe as the hit drama A Journey to Love, A Journey to Glow is set against the backdrop of Jiangnan during a time of turmoil. It tells the story of a small town in Jiangnan that was once a land of abundance, but has been reduced to hardship by political turmoil, incompetent governance, and heavy taxation, leaving the people's livelihoods in decline and the countryside overrun by bandits.
By a twist of fate, a wandering female thief crosses paths with a low-ranking official who has been demoted, an eccentric palace attendant, a general searching for his lord, a female official who guards the imperial mausoleum, and the privileged son of a wealthy family whose every business venture ends in failure.
Thrown to rock bottom during an age of turmoil, the six come together in search of a secret treasure that could restore their fallen kingdom. Along the way, they forge bonds of friendship, love, and conflict, while the warmth and human connections of the small town gradually heal them and help them rediscover their lost sense of self-worth.
The series has assembled a top-tier creative team, with a screenplay from acclaimed screenwriter Zhang Wei and directors Hong Ling and Zhang Shu Heng helming the production.
Breaking away from her usual on-screen image, Zhao Jin Mai takes on the spirited and vibrant jianghu heroine Shen Zhi Yi. Born into an age of turmoil, Shen Zhi Yi is bright and decisive, with a pure and clear-hearted nature. Though well-versed in the ways of the jianghu, she never wavers from her kindness or moral principles.
Wang An Yu stars as the male lead, Lu Qing Ge, a brilliant scholar from a humble background who harbors sincerity and integrity. Though outwardly reserved, composed, and sparing with words, he harbors grand ambitions for the nation and its people.
Amid the treacherous and ever-shifting political climate, he remains neither servile nor arrogant, enduring in silence while standing firm in his convictions. Relying on exceptional intellect and strategic acumen, he breaks through one deadlock after another, holding fast to his ideals and the path of righteousness in a turbulent age.
To faithfully capture the distinctive charm of Jiangnan as depicted in traditional Chinese ink-wash paintings, it is reported that the production delved into Huizhou's unique regional characteristics. Reportedly filmed entirely on location, the series meticulously recreates the pavilions, terraces, and rain-soaked scenery of the Jiangnan towns, all while embracing the aesthetic style of the Song dynasty.
From elegant costumes, makeup, and styling carefully tailored to each character to graceful, ethereal cinematography, the production promises an immersive visual experience rooted in traditional Chinese aesthetics, seamlessly blending the elegance of Jiangnan with the free-spirited chivalry of the jianghu.
