Chinese star Zhao Lusi is in the trending charts again.

On August 2, Zhao Lusi made a post about the contract termination dispute between her and her agency YinheKuyu Media (KU/Galaxy Cool Entertainment), and shared her severe anxiety and depression assessment report on her Weibo. She wrote:

I've waited until now and still haven't received any communication. 2 years ago, I foolishly renewed my contract, and now there's a 4 years financial agreement in place. So of course, they're not in any rush, while I'm the one suffering.

Because of unexpectedly falling ill, I was forced to cancel part of my brand endorsements and reduce filming workload. They kept saying they would take responsibility for my sudden illness, yet in the end, I was the one who had to pay. How can you just take money from my studio? Then [you] even tricked my finance person into signing off on the revenue split statement. I've already paid 2.05 million, negotiations have gone nowhere, and now you still expect me to keep paying?

After repeated attempts to communicate, you still refuse to return the control of my studio's operations. How many staff members are even left? Eight months waiting, and this is the result? The team disbands, that's the result? Everyone leaves, that's the result? In the end, I'm the one who has to pay for everything. That's the result? You told me I might get blacklisted and should stay quiet for now. Is that your way of "resolving" things? When I brought up terminating the contract, you said your family was sick.

Everyone says it's not easy. Becoming an actress by climbing step by step to get here hasn't been easy. But you took advantage of my struggles and easily became who you are today. I'm a mess inside. I've lost my dignity. But I don't need you to blacklist me — I'm done. If I had reported this to the police back then, if I had reported it that time, you wouldn't even dare say the word "law" today.

So, my dear ones, if you ever find yourselves in any dangerous situation, don't trust any comforting words that come with an agenda. The most important thing is to report it to the authorities! Report it immediately.

On August 3, the agency issued an official statement in response to Zhao Lusi's accusations:

Yesterday, upon learning about the Weibo post made by Ms. Zhao Lusi, our company was deeply shocked and surprised. However, as our company has always valued Ms. Zhao Lusi's opinions and the amicable cooperative relationship between both parties, and in order to address the various concerns and speculation, we hereby issue the following official statement:

Throughout the many years of working together, our company and Ms. Zhao Lusi have always accompanied each other and grown together. Being able to work with such an outstanding artist has been a great honor for us. We have never forgotten our responsibilities, consistently maintaining friendly and open communication with Ms. Zhao Lusi, doing our utmost to fulfill our duties as a management company, and supporting the development of her career, with absolutely no instances of illegal or contract-breaching behavior.

In particular, after Ms. Zhao Lusi fell ill, out of consideration for her physical and mental well‑being, our company has always prioritized her wishes as the first and foremost concern, actively coordinating various matters. We are fully aware that public figures must speak and act with caution, as any irrational behavior could harm the artist's positive image and potentially cause significant adverse impact on the partners.

Our company has also been quietly enduring immense pressure while doing everything possible to minimize negative impact and reduce losses. In all honesty, we have always actively fulfilled the responsibilities a management company should bear, providing the artist with appropriate advice and guidance. If Ms. Zhao Lusi has any doubts about our company's work, she is always welcome to communicate and negotiate with us at any time. We will respect and give full consideration to any reasonable and lawful requests made by the artist. However, we sincerely hope that going forward, Ms. Zhao Lusi will refrain from posting vague statements online that could mislead the public about relevant facts.

Going forward, our company will continue to fulfill the responsibilities of a management agency in accordance with the relevant terms of the contract, walking alongside the artist and working together to face and resolve any issues. We have no intention of occupying public resources and, to prevent the focus of public opinion from being diverted, we earnestly ask the public not to pay excessive attention to this matter and to allow Ms. Zhao Lusi ample space to rest and recover.

In response, Zhao Lusi posted:

What are you shocked about? What's so surprising? Did you reply to my WeChat message? Or do you only know how to play on Weibo?

You said you were silently enduring it. Is that what you call going around the industry, saying that I'm faking my illness? Wasn't that contract I signed when I was 17 for China, Hong Kong, Macau, worldwide, the entire universe yours, Xu Zhe [KU's CFO]?

What happened last year when I was hospitalized? Just over a week ago, while I was on medication and oxygen. Where were you? You were skiing in Hokkaido. [I have] countless recordings, countless pieces of evidence. Your statement. Great. I'll be watching. Looking forward to your lawsuit.

Lawsuits drag on for a very long time. Maybe I won't even be done with it in the end. On top of that, with your underhanded tactics and disgusting behaviour, I'll be exhausted. I've already spent nearly ten years of my youth on this. I don't want to be entangled with these people for another 10 years. Every day that I live now, I will treasure it.

A company with so many shareholders. Has even one person sent me a message? It's like punching cotton — fists sink in with no impact — while they just quietly watch you go mad. But they will absolutely never address anything from your previous Weibo post, and instead privately have lawyers everywhere collecting evidence against me. Whoever wrote this statement should become a screenwriter; they have created a very layered character of a cheating, abusive man.

On August 3, Zhao Lusi also held a livestream, where she said that her parents will be coming over soon, and now, she's calm after breaking down, and does not want to make everyone uncomfortable.  Zhao Lusi also revealed that, without going into how much she has earned in the industry, she does have some savings, so there's no need to worry about her. She added, "If nothing works out, I'll just open a little noodle shop. Whatever you do, it's still a life's work anyway."
