Relative newcomer here to the donghua series offering my thoughts (I just finished EP57).
Two REALLY beautiful scenes really stood out for me and that I really admire from a technical standpoint:
1. When they were waiting for the portal to another world to open to pick rare herbs (where Han Li eventually had sex with the girl with the mask) the scene transitioned from sunset to night to sunrise, WOW! They made it seem like God just threw the moon that weighs millions of tonnes casually across the sky like it was a light softball!
2. The daisy flowers field where Han Li met with Chen senior "sister". They made it feel like it was a REAL place and that I was really there!
Of course, I watched all first 57 episodes so far in 4K on a USD $200 1080p projector from Xiaomi that I bought off Aliexpress. The 4K video source and cinematic-ness of a super-sized projected image really made those two scenes from above really stand out.
On the other hand Fanren Xiu Xian Chuan is overall more like a meh to average donghua series that so happens to be animated by probably one of the Top 3 animation studios from China. In other words, it's good because it's made by a killer animation studio not because the story is good!
I actually felt that the donghua started out as a boy version of the Journey of Chongzi where the MC fought nail and tooth to gain admission to a cultivation academy and that after he gained admission, they didn't even teach him anything like how Chongzi wasn't even taught anything! I REALLY felt like "why am I watching Journey of Chongzi (but in a boy form) all over again?" which speaks volumes about how bland and "average" the story of Fanren actually is, but only made good becoz they recruited a Top3 animation studio from China...
