6) Some Plot Point Spoilers for Drama Viewers
I will pick on some plots that I see most in the comments area asking for spoilers or more clarification and post them here; so that more viewers can understand the story. If you have any parts of drama or novel you are curious about, just ask here; I will explain.
🔥Sima Jiao's conflict with the Shi Family and Eight Palaces & why he didn't kill them immediately and a bit of the world background 🔥
Let's start from Sima people. Sima were the people that were an existence as the closest race to the godhood. Its like they are a superior species compared to other cultivators. However, as the gods dissipated from the heavens and earth, the power of all races waned, including the Fengshan Sima clan. With the deity they served extinguished, they sought to maintain their power through a pure bloodline. This process produced many exceptionally talented individuals, but the Sima clan's people became less and less. The whole body of Sima People is like a natural spiritual treasure so they can cultivate faster and nurture the spiritual fire. Except for Simas no one ascended for a long time. People used to think many people from the Sima Clan ascended to God but later when the cruel truth about ascension was known to a few people that there is no nine heavens, upper relam or anything and all gods after ascension have their body and spiritual energy will scatter and nourish this world, in a word ascension means death. .
Throughout the rich history of the Gengchen Immortal Palace, the Sima clan held nearly half of its glory. However, as time passed, this once-mighty clan rapidly declined. Meanwhile, the Shi clan and other clans serving them grew stronger with each passing generation, vastly outnumbering the Sima clan. This reversal of power transformed the once-powerful from masters into caged birds. Over the millennia, the few remaining powerful cultivators of the Sima clan died unexpectedly for various reasons, leaving only a handful of immature young children. Even the most formidable talent and aptitude require time to mature, and under the "care" of the Shi clan, they gradually lost their freedom. Driven by greed and ambition, the Shi clan betrayed their former master clan. They exploited the Sima clan's trust and controlled the younger Sima members, denying them the opportunity to grow powerful and reducing them to mere puppets, isolated within the Three Sacred Mountains. Of course, in the eyes of the world, the Sima clan was always considered superior, even by the ordinary disciples of the Gengchen Immortal Mansion. Little did they know they were being carefully kept in a "golden cage," like precious beasts.
By the time the truth about ascension was realized there were only a few Sima people left, the sect has grown big enough to be country so the servant of Sima Clan, which is the Shi family and other palace masters knowing that there is no one from the Sima who truly became a god in a word Sima people had no backers and there is no true ascension; their goal became to only cultivate below the ascension level and achieve immortality. Since Sima clan had few people and too big a territory, the servants became the master and on the one hand , they imprisoned the Sima Clan people left, have them keep nurturing the spiritual fire. On the other hand; when Sima people died by accident or killed by them the Shi famliy and 8 palace people would divide their flesh and blood to accelerate their cultivation. After all, not everyone is like Sima people with talent to cultivate. That's how the powerful sect full of talented cultivators came about. Also, to keep up the Sima flesh and blood supply and continue nurturing the spiritual fire they forced the few Sima people to inbreed in a word incest to maintain the purity of the bloodline. Later, only Sima Jiao's parents were left and they were direct blood related twins; brother and sister forced to get married and bear children which was toned down in the drama as being from different lineage like cousins.
Later Sima Jiao's father Sima Shi was known by the public to go crazy and died; while he was actually kept alive in a secret place set up by the Shi family to grow a new spiritual fire with his heart blood. The Shi family also set up a human farm with impure Sima bloodline, they collected children from distant linage of Sima Clan who were born with someone outside the Sima Clan; kept them as mortals in a place and keep them breeding.. later flesh and blood will be given to the Shi family to consume for cultivation and blood will also be supplied to where Sima Shi was locked up to help in growing the new spiritual fire, after all only Sima Shi's blood is not enough and he will die if he alone keeps supplying blood but Sima Shi is kept alive because except Simas other Fengshan cannot nurture spiritual fire.
The reason the Shi clan can still maintain a polite facade with Sima Jiao is because when Sima Shi was supposedly dead, the other 8 palace master forced Sima E, Sima Jiao's mother to wait for Sima Jiao to grow up and have a child with him because Sima Shi died before they could give birth to another child, a girl. This totally broke Sima E, in desperation she tried kill her own son, Sima Jiao who was then saved by Shi family previous master. As the Sima clan dwindled, Sima E, the last pure-blooded Sima daughter, sacrificed her life in a final act of defiance, securing a chance for the last remnants of the Sima clan's bloodline, Sima Jiao to grow. Enduring immense pain, she used her own flesh and blood, her spirit bones, to purify the Spirit Mountain Fire, allowing the powerful flame, already transformed into spirit, to willingly undergo nirvana and be reborn as a young spirit fire. She then implanted this purified new fire into her child, completely linking his life to the Fengshan Spirit Fire. Sima Jiao, then a mere child, similarly endured immense pain before fully accepting the weakened new spirit fire. The spiritual fire is the Fengshan clan's most precious treasure and the foundation of the Gengcheng Immortal Palace, its most vital root. Without it, the Gengcheng Immortal Palace's spiritual energy would vanish, transforming it from a barren wasteland, and their fortunes would decline.
Over the years, while countless Sima clan members have worshipped the spiritual fire like Sima E, Sima Jiao stands apart. He has become one with the fire, living and dying together, and can no longer be cared for by anyone else—there is no other Sima clan member in the world who can do so. Thanks to the fire's blessing, Sima Jiao's cultivation has rapidly advanced. The Shi clan and other Gengchen Immortal Palace clans, wary of him, have turned to seduction and enticement. However, Sima Jiao possesses the oath of truth, a unique ability to see into others' hearts. Even when those offer him the warmest smiles, he feels only a wave of terrifying desires. All he senses is deception, greed, fear, and all sorts of malice. He was wary of everyone and inherently fierce, unlike his naturally kind mother. Through mastering the art of reincarnation the 8 palaces and Shi family can reincarnate again once after dying; one person can only use this once , that's how the direct bloodlines and key disciples of eight places have grown larger by having so many descendants. Sima Jiao's revenge is on those people who have consumed Sima flesh, blood in a word those 8 palace direct descendants and disciples; bcz marginal and ordinary people in Gencheng Immortal Mansion will not receive the precious resource of Sima flesh and blood. That's why he will blow up the main whole eight palaces and Gencheng immortal sect; not the outer cities and marginal branches under the eight palaces. To figure out which branches are related to the main 8 palaces and their intricate network of relationship, Sima Jiao proposed the death duel of disciples luring them with the fengshan flower petal; its not to vent the anger but to carry out his revenge plan in an efficient way. Also to find out the hidden secrets of the Shi family such as impure Sima People breeding farm and new spiritual fire growth project that he found later. He always had suspicion about how the remaining number of Sima People could boost the cultivation of such a huge number of people in the 8 palaces. That's why he let the 8 palaces and Shi people live for the time being to figure out the hidden details before killing them. Sima Jiao is actually a very rational and scheming person despite appearing like a madman.
Now a bit about the destiny world background part with Sima Clan. The heavenly dao cannot tolerate Sima Clan and they are destined to die to merge into the nourishment of this world. As gods no longer existed and ascended people would dissipate into spiritual energy of heaven and earth and various supernatural bloodline declined so Sima people who maintained their power through bloodline purity is an unnecessary existence for the way of heaven. There is no need for an overly powerful existence in this world anymore, only ordinary cultivators. That's why even after Sima Jiao reincarnated as a human emperor in the third arc, his country would be filled with various natural disaster as a warning from the way of heaven. Later, because Sima Jiao accepted the new spiritual fire from his father Sima Shi at the end of 1st arc , and LYT also had the old spiritual fire given by Sima Jiao at the end of 2nd arc; so LYT and Sima Jiao truly became the most powerful existence in the world so heavenly dao couldn't do anything to them. So, they were able to reach a true happy ending.
One last thing about this world, the three relams of Immortal, Demon and Human exist in the same time and space/ same world. The modern world from where Zhou Yan/ LYT came is outside of this world. So, no matter how Sima Jiao sees the spiritual palace of LYT or how the Shi family tempered with LYT's memory in the 2nd arc they never found the existence of the modern world. The drama portrayed it as 3 different world/ lifetimes for easier interpretation/ to skirt around various bans and to add a hint of dramatic meaning as other xiania dramas.
🔥Did Sima Jiao complete his full revenge in the 1st arc🔥
He completed his revenge almost at the first arc; all eight palaces that used Sima blood flesh died only a few Shi clan member could ran away, its just that at the end of the first arc when he planned an explosion to blast the main gencheng immortal mansion and 8 palaces , the Shi family took LYT there to threaten Sima Jiao. LYT was placed in a safe place before Sima Jiao started the explosion but the Shi family somehow found LYT and brought her there. So, LYT got involved in the explosion which shocked Sima Jiao and he started grabbing the dead souls there to find LYT soul but couldn't find her and got distracted so a few Shi clan members could flee from there, they also quitely took LYT away to tamper with her memory so that they could use her to make a comeback and kill Sima Jiao. Then the 2nd Arc starts where Sima Jiao conquers demon relam to find LYT and also hunt down the last Shi Clan members. The Shi Clan also developed some connection with the demon relam after they had been in power for so long after the Simas so Sima Jiao deduced that demon relam would be the last retreat of Shi clan so he heads to the demon relam and start grabbing territory there. Later he unified the demon relam and became the absolute ruler there. After LYT and Sima Jiao reunites in the 2nd arc and the last shi family member is killed; his revenge was finally complete.
🔥LYT's Original Body Background🔥
Well, as you can see our LYT is from the modern world and got transmigrated. The original body she transmigrated into is a demon spy placed in Gencheng Immortal Mansion to pass the selection and kill Sima Jiao. The heir of the Yuan Palace, Yuan Sheng colluded with the demons to destroy the sect and LYT was controlled by the bone eroding poison through him with the bell. LYT doesn't know that this body had another identity as a demon spy so when she receives a letter to meet she thinks Yan Heng is the original body's lover. Later, Sima Jiao will solve this threat pretty neatly and to prevent LYT from being targeted by the 8 palace due to this matter he will give her a transformation pill and she will become a otter for some time. The transformation pill can transform people into what form they like/thinking about at that moment the most.. well, LYT dreamt about browsing weibo seeing the comfortable life of an otter and petting it after she took the pill, so she became an otter 😂😂😂
🔥Sima Jiao's Snake Subordinate🔥
In the novel, It was just an ordinary snake. Sima Jiao gave it some of his precious blood when it was dying out of boredom after being trapped here so it grew like this. Later from time to time alongside disposing garbage (dead bodies) Sima Jiao would give it some blood when he was in a good mood so it grew from an ordinary snake to this version. The snake never cultivated in human form until the end of 2nd arc when Sima Jiao used a secret technique to transform the snake into a little boy who looks like him to spread the rumour that she and LYT had a son, because he was going to die soon so he made perfect arrangements for LYT to take over the demon relam as the next ruler. The snake never developed much intelligence, just stayed as a cute and silly snake and later a mute little boy (why mute, because although it was able to transform into a child; it still had low intelligence as it was originally an ordinary snake who changed after drinking Sima Jiao's blood so it never gained much enlightenment so talking was still a challenge) looking like Sima Jiao. It was like a silly and obedient pet throughout the story. There were even some fun parenting scenes regarding the snake little boy between LYT and Sima Jiao in the third arc. LYT named the snake Sisi and Sisi was always like a cute, silly but loyal pet to Sima Jiao and LYT.
The character of Hei Nan Ju transformed from a snake into a adult and love line with ye rulling/hongluo is a completely new setting in the drama.
