Jade Rabbit:
What do people think of Bu Sang Gil's last few eps? He was the only "villain" like character (aside from Yeong Beom's mother.), but he ended up being shown as a kind of good person underneath it all.
Ofcourse there are some people like this who keep things inside and aren't vocal about their affection, but in the initial volumes we saw him treating his family pretty bad. All his misogynistic/idiotic remarks just got forgotten at the end?
His wife left him, which was great!! But they still showed kind of a relationship between them even after the divorce. The kids aren't attached to him which was another thing I liked.
Idk, I'm conflicted about this. Sometimes I feel they shouldn't have made him a "good" character after all that, but other times I think there's people like this irl so they had a good depiction...idk, I just don't think he should have been in such a good light at the end.
Anyone have any thoughts on this?
The main characters were very idealistic and altruistic. I don´t want to say unrealistic, but they are very rare. Bu Sang-Gil is the counterpart to that, the drama needed his character because while also exaggerated a bit, he is much closer to the norm and serves as a counterpart to Gwan-Sik. At the same time it is important that these people are not "evil" or "bad", they just have conformed to their environment and upbringing.
Hence why Gwan-Sik is such a revolutionary, which is addressed at one point.
