What do people think of Bu Sang Gil's last few eps? He was the only "villain" like character (aside from Yeong Beom's mother.), but he ended up being shown as a kind of good person underneath it all.

Ofcourse there are some people like this who keep things inside and aren't vocal about their affection, but in the initial volumes we saw him treating his family pretty bad. All his misogynistic/idiotic remarks just got forgotten at the end?

His wife left him, which was great!! But they still showed kind of a relationship between them even after the divorce. The kids aren't attached to him which was another thing I liked.

Idk, I'm conflicted about this. Sometimes I feel they shouldn't have made him a "good" character after all that, but other times I think there's people like this irl so they had a good depiction...idk, I just don't think he should have been in such a good light at the end.

Anyone have any thoughts on this?

The great thing about When life gives you tangerines is that every single character is truly and 'utterly' human. Human beings are flawed they aren't perfect although (Yang Gwan Shik is essentially really close to being perfect), Bu Sangil as a character showed the reality of what a significant number of men were/are in his position. He was perfect contrast to Gwan Shik, his arc and his character graph showed that human beings are rarely just black or white through out there life.

I think it showed the reality that people aren't always just good or bad all the time. he was mostly bad but he did something good as well. I do wish it didn't feel like they kind of swept away the fact that he was physically abusive to his ex-wife and cheated on her multiple times and was a shit dad for the most part even if there were moments of care.

The main characters were very idealistic and altruistic. I don´t want to say unrealistic, but they are very rare.  Bu Sang-Gil is the counterpart to that, the drama needed his character because while also exaggerated a bit, he is much closer to the norm and serves as a counterpart to Gwan-Sik. At the same time it is important that these people are not "evil" or "bad", they just have conformed to their environment and upbringing.

Hence why Gwan-Sik is such a revolutionary, which is addressed at one point.

That's true, I agree. There are many people irl who might not be bad/evil at heart but still do things to harm others, just like Bu Sang Gil. Many people do wrong things and dont even think they are at fault. He was such a character. And it's fine that they showed he did other things behind the scenes to help everyone (which most people who are like this would not do, but lets ignore that for now), but in the last episodes he was shown as if he didn't do that much wrong just because he was nicer now.

My main issue (?) was that. He was with all the main characters and most seemed to get along fine with him as if all was good now. But he's still accountable for the wrong things he did in the past. The last episodes could almost make you forget that.

Nah money was the true villain of this show. Notice how everything became lighter, more happier when the restaurant business started going well. As for bu sangil he is just a shitty toxic misogynistic man who never knew how to treat his family right. And I feel like he didn't fully "reaped" what he "sowed" to be very honest... his ending can be considered a "happy ending" despite him not deserving of that. AT ALL. I still don't think he is irredeemable, it's just, I feel like he should have suffered more.

But his ex-wife is a total savage lol divorcing him at the age of 80+ she probably did that so that he couldn't get married again at this age 😂 Also the irony of them behaving like an old married couple after their divorce lmao 🤣🤣

I actually love how they handled his redemption arc, because he didn't completely changed and his family didn't completely forgot how he treats them all those years.

They found a new respect for him later on but it still doesn't change the fact that they endured him for years. So although they do not hate him, they also cannot act like a sweet family towards him as if nothing happened.

Even his wife whom he mistreated the whole time couldn't accept his so "love" but still there was that care for him.

Most of the time when a bad parent gets redemption arc what happened is just forgetten and they live happily ever after. So I am glad they didn't go that way.
