The scenes where He Yan fought one against ten were cut. After He Yan’s duel with the Utu leader, he kept fighting off a lot of soldiers while injured until Xiao Jue returned, but that part was also deleted. The scene of He Yan falling into the water, and Xiao Jue rushing in on horseback, were cut too. Even Run Du’s Li Kuang said he fought an entire day of battle scenes, only for them to be cut.
In episode 26, He Yan only realized Xiao Jue was missing after the battle ended and then went to look for him, but because the fight scenes were cut and shuffled around, the editing felt chaotic. On top of that, since Li Mingde’s face-swap caused issues, a lot of his scenes with the main characters were deleted, and Tao Tao’s parts were heavily reduced as well.
Even the fight scene where He Yan rushed to aid Yan He was filmed but got cut. In total they actually shot enough for 40 episodes, but only 32 episodes’ worth made it to air.
What we’re seeing is only about 70% of the original script at most. Even the Yuhua Temple scenes were cut.
