I've definitely hated him to the guts, but dang I love a morally grey character!! He's always been despicable in the ways he handled his feelings towards FL, but when it comes to him ruling, he was shown to be benevolent and caring towards his people. He was greedy and selfish and trusted the wrong people for his selfish desires, but ultimately, his character really was admirable. Unlike MRW who could only go insane with another's sacrifice and never truly redeemed herself, SuYu proved that his heart was in the right place, that he is someone worthy of pity and admiration. Honestly that last episode did break my heart, but it was the only right ending for him

You are so based omg I love his conclusion so much!!! (tho I didn’t read the novel) I also said this on the CDrama subreddit:

I admire that he was cunning to the end. He refused to die as a pawn by someone else's hand, so he died on his own terms as the beloved Prince that his people revere, and as the Su Yu that Mu Qingge trusted and Zhou Feihua loved. Su Yu got the universe in the end—not by conquering it, but by saving it.

Agree! His obsession and suspicion and hatred got the better of him for many years, so I loved that he turned around at the final moment. He was fortunate in his life to have had people who cared for him and loved him.

Yessss he's suffered a lot, living in the palace is never easy and he's been betrayed by his brother whom he saved .. he believed that act of his was what turned his life into shambles, and perhaps he is right, but we will never know. But SuYu was always shown to care about his people, he had the heart of a ruler, and yet was filled with bitterness and hatred of how the world treats him unfairly, his love unreciprocated and his health poor
