TOOTS: They are both good looking. And the early heavy white powder seems to have been toned down, mercifully. On that note, I feel the ML is an excellent option to carry the torch for soon to be retired Jeremy Tsui, with that classical, stage style of performance where every hand, head, eye, and hand coat gesture has meaning. Just as in The Double, The ML' acting belie his youth with his amazingly grounded performances and this show is no different. But who is all this love acting directed to and why? The problem leads to the BOOTS section
BOOTS: Let me begin with the disclaimer, that I am not a woman-hater or idol possessive, and it takes a lot for a FL to push me off a show that is otherwise fine. For example, it took me 2 tries to deal with the Esther's Yu's voice in LBFAD. But by the 2nd attempt, and listening to her cry about him cutting her 1000 year hair, I was laughing so hard that her voice was and LBFAD became and remains my GOAT. Again, I digress (ADHD?)
The Boot, sorry is for the FL, I don't know who she is, what her motivations are, her true feelings about anything, and most importantly, Why/How are they in love? The business competition push/pull is normally fertile ground to create sizzingly chemistry and great banter to give the Couple and Viewers a relatable 'meet-cute' enemies to lovers trope that would have shown the growth of their romance, while building anticipation, and finally buy-in to their romance. Following the most lukewarm push/pull dynamics I've seen recently in romance, Simply saying I love you, and buying cliche gifts from the market, DOES NOT MAKE YOU A COUPLE FOR THE AGES. These two talk at each other, not to each other. I want to know WHY! WHY DO YOU LOVE EACH OTHER? What did I miss? Any way, it's only Episode 10, so I hope I can at least look forward to 1st Lady and Master Du, I can at least feel where they're going.
