For anyone interested who doesn't want to read the book, I thought I would post here. I don't know how much the show will delve into these upcoming plots, but here is how it goes down in the books:
Meng Tao storyline:
- A few years prior to the start of the drama, JXS was drugged and believed to be gangraped. He woke up in the hospital three days later. Meng Tao, who was his bf at the time, showed him pictures of the 'incident' and called him dirty, and left him to marry a woman. At the time JXS believed a mutual friend has set up his attack because that friend has feelings for Meng Tao.
- JXS left to start over.
- Present day he shows up at the clinic and starts demanding JXS take him back. He starts hurting JXS, Guo protects JXS by slicing MT wrist and making it look like he attempted suicide. He is taken to a hospital.
- Guo sends his men to look into Meng Tao.
- When MT wakes up he escapes and ends up attempting to highjack WSW and his car, only for WSW to kidnap him and lock him up in a basement at his company.
- WSW does some light torture on MT, but tries to get Guo to take him the next morning. Guo says 'not yet', and makes WSW take him back.
- For the next week, WSW spends his days doing some light torture on MT, which means he's behind on work and too tired at night to sleep with CC.
- CC knows something is up and is sexually frustrated after a week of no sex. So he goes to the company and starts poking around to see what WSW is up to (thinking maybe he is having an affair). He finds MT tied up in the basement and is so happy that WSW ONLY has JSX's ex chained up in the basement.
- CC decides to let off some steam and take the torture about 100 notches, which results in MT being paralyzed. When MT asks him why CC was doing this, CC says 'you've been making my man too exhausted.'
- After he's done, he hands him over to Guo and makes Guo take him this time. Because CC prioritizes making sure his man gets some much needed rest after all that hard work. Before leaving, CC reminds Guo 'you can do whatever you want to him, just make sure he can still breath.'
- Guo has Wang Li start torturing MT while JXS is watching and the truth comes out that MT set JXS up to think he was raped, but really he was drugged and the photos were staged. He did it so he could have a 'justified reason' for their breakup. By time Guo's men are done, MT needs a 24 hour care facility....but hey...he is still breathing.
- JXS leaves, feeling like a weight has been lifted off of him.
The Wang Shuo/YY/WSW's mother, intertwined plot:
I maybe have some of the sequence of events messed up so bare with me.
- Guo 'randomly' spots Wang Shuo on the streets. Shuo says he is leaving in a few days. Guo tells him he doesn't believe he'll leave.
- Later, at a school reunion, WS, Guo, and CC all meet. They're openly friendly, but only for appearances. WS follows CC when he leaves and tries to talk to him only for Wang Zhen, WS's older brother, to show up and beat the snot out of him. WS ends up in the hospital.
- WSW wants to meet WS so he goes to hospital and talks to WS and meets WZ.
- While leaving he sees CC's car in the parking garage. WSW calls CC and asks what he is up to. CC says he is at work. WSW thinks that CC secretly went to check on WS behind his back.
- Actually CC is there with WSW's mother, who asked CC to accompany her for some tests while she is keeping all this secret from WSW asks CC to do the same. She is dying of cancer.
- JXS and WSW decide they want to dig into WS.
- During this time, CC starts changing the way he treats WSW, being gentler and more caring. Encouraging him to go home to see his mom. WSW thinks CC is doing this so CC can secretly meet with WS. WSW learns WZ is like a superspy/slash bodyguard for wealthy clients and is kind of in awe of him. When WSW runs into him again, they talk and WZ tells him he will teach him a trick with a needle. CC gets angry about WSW referring to WZ as 'his idol' despite WSW reassuring CC that he isn't romantically interested in him.
- JXS and WSW figure out WS has actually been back for several months, spying on them and that WS knows about YY.
- WS is shady. He shows up at WSW company asking for WSW to help with the remodel of his home as he is sticking around for awhile. He texts CC anytime WZ and WSW interact, implying more is going on then there is. He invites WSW to check out his house, intentionally letting him find videos of him, Guo, and CC when they were College students. Including a video of WS daring CC and Guo to kiss while drunk and of WS asking a drunk CC who is the most important person to him, he says Guo. This is while he is dating WS.
- Distance grows between WSW and CC, both thinking the other is cheating.
- CC goes to get some things from his old place and WSW follows, thinking he will catch CC and WS together. WS shows up and forcefully kisses CC. WSW doesn't see the kiss but does hear WS say that CC 'still tastes the same'. WSW leaves and not wanting to go home or face JXS, he shows up at Guo's house. CC goes frantic when he can't find WSW, and figures out from JXS that WSW must have followed him and saw the kiss. He finds WSW at Guo's and brings him home....they don't really talk about it.
- WSW is playing basketball at the court outside of the clinic, when WZ shows up and plays with him. CC is there and sees them. WS is there, being a menace. He wants to see CC's snakes and CC agrees to take him. As they are leaving, it starts raining and WSW watching them leave as he is standing the rain. The clinic is closed and WSW no longer has a key so WZ offers to take him back to his place to dry off and sleep for the night. Half way into their (WS and CC) drive, CC gets a call from the hospital about WSW's mother, and he bails on WS to spend the night at the hospital with WSW's mom. WSW is sleeping in WS's bed, who has not come home. He thinks WS and CC must have spent the night together because CC calls WSW and tells him he is working late to hide that he is at the hospital with WSW's mom, in turn WSW lies and says he is at home in their bed. When CC gets home the next morning, he figures out (because WS makes sure he does) that WSW actually slept at his house the night before. Implying that WZ and WS slept together. They get into a fight.
- JXS asks WSW if he really is attracted to WZ and that is why he is spending time with him. WSW basically says he is 'intentionally making it look like he is having an affair so that when the truth comes out that WS didn't really cheat and CC wants to take him back, he will hate WSW enough that it won't feel guilty for leaving him.' He is convinced CC still really loves WS and doesn't have the courage to confront CC on cheating or break up with him, himself.
- YY shows up at WSW's office under the guise of wanting to buy products. CC sees them talking and later asks about it. WSW tells him she showed up to buy stuff.
- WSW goes home to spend time with his mom, and she ends up collapsing. He takes her to the hospital and finds out about her cancer. He also finds out that CC has known and has been keeping it from him. They both stay at the hospital with his mom while there. When she is discharged, Wu goes home with her to spend time with her.
- WSW tells JXS he is no longer giving CC up without a fight and that he knows he needs to help CC get over WS if they are to have any kind of future.
- While taking care of his mom, WSW becomes obsessed with figuring out what really happened in the past. WSW visits a psychiatrist who used to treat WS, gets WS medical records and finds out that WS has significant mental health issues. He figures out that watching Guo and CC kiss (even if dared them too while they were drunk) seemed to break something in WS and made him resolved to ruin their friendship.
- YY shows up at WSW's mom's house while he is not there, apologizing for her previous behavior and tells her that she and WSW are still talking and are considering getting back together.
- Somewhere in all this is a scene where WS tells CC that if he doesn't love him, all he has to do is tell him and he will leave him alone forever, but CC just walks out without saying a word.
- WSW finds a secret video of WS filming himself stripping a passed out Guo, getting naked, and climbing into bed with him. Staging an affair for CC to catch them. He burns a copy of the video. He realized that WS had likely planned this whole thing out over 6 years ago and intended all along to come back and reveal the truth. He just needed WSW to do it, because the truth and the evidence needed to come from a person who didn't benefit from the truth coming out.
- CC shows up at WSW mom's house to check on her, and she is babbling about how YY showed up and about the pending reconciliation. She sees right through her and she hopes that CC can talk sense into WSW and get him to see he shouldn't take her back. CC is is reeling, realizing that WSW ex is YY and that 'supposedly' they've been still in contact this entire time.
- CC leaves and heads to the clinic and goes through WSW things and finds WSW's revenge notes. WSW walks in. CC tells him that 'despite it all, if WSW really does love him, even a little bit. He will forgive it all.' WSW refuses to look at him. He knows CC still has unresolved issues with WS and that he won't deal with them if WSW is still in the picture so he tells CC that he never loved him, and hands him the flashdrive with a copy of the video telling him that after he sees the video he will reconcile with the one he really wants to be with.....or some other such nonsense I don't remember specifically. CC's breaks up with WSW and leaves.
- CC goes home and watches the video. He leaves to confront WS where he tells him that WS plan to get him back backfired by using WSW to reveal the truth. Because it showed CC that WSW would do all this just so CC could have answers and resolve his past hurt. Effectively removing the last of the hold WS even had on him. ( he knows WSW lied when he said he didn't love him) He tells WS he doesn't love him, gives him Erbao back, and leaves.
- Guo and CC reconcile their friendship.
- Guo admits to JXS that he instigated YY to make an appearance. Citing that having both secrets outed at once would help CC see that by WSW actions to help him get over WS, that he really did love him...and therefore cancel out how they started......I'm not sure about his logic.....but it worked I suppose
- CC's pride is too hurt by WSW saying he didn't love him, even if he knows he lied, to allow him to approach WSW...but he lurks.
- Erbao
runs slithers away from WS and finds WSW who keeps him. - WSW's mom passes away and it breaks CC's resolve to stay away. They reconcile. They're separation is about 5 short chapters.
It's a lot, but their relationship is solid after this.
