A Love Other than Yours

너 말고 다른 연애 ‧ Drama ‧ 2026

A summary of the characters HO and MIDO

HO:

1. He never received maternal love and never knew his biological father or experienced paternal love.

2. His mother sells him to loan sharks. One of the loan sharks is forced to take care of him and eventually becomes a father figure to him and took care of him.

3. We don't know exactly how it happened, but HO ends up in the water with his father figure, causing the latter's death of his father figure as well as the death of MIDO's father, who came to save him.

4. MIDO's mother, enraged, blames HO for her husband's death. HO is only seven years old at the time. We don't know how long she continued to hold a grudge against the child.

7. HO suffers abuse at the hands of his mother and the loan sharks before always being saved by MIDO.

8. He gives up on his dreams and drawing.

9. Mental load: To make up for the loss of the father figure who welcomed him into the LEE family, HO begins acting like a father himself. He provides emotional support to the entire family and acts as a bridge between its members.

Among other things, he supports the youngest brother after his wife's death and helps him recover from his depression. As we see, the brother no longer wanted to live and had abandoned his sporting ambitions. Thanks to HO, he gets back on his feet and rediscovers his motivation to pursue his sport.

After his divorce, the eldest brother doesn't know how to handle his son, and his younger brother is constantly arguing with the kid. HO helps them to maintain a healthy relationship. MIDO's mother also appears to be ill, and whenever hospital-related matters arise, her children always rely on HO.

HO is also MIDO's emotional support. He is the one who ends up dealing with her problems and tries to keep her life on a normal track for an adult.

10. Relationship with MIDO: To HO, MIDO is his heroine. She and her family gave him a reason to live. Initially, her passion for movies and filmmaking also gave him a reason to keep going.

However, he has idealized her so much that he cannot see her flaws and doesn't give her room to express herself. Whenever she expresses something, he either tries to offer her a solution or comfort her, even when that isn't necessarily what she needs. He is incapable of telling her painful truths. This eventually leads to repressed feelings and poor communication.

For example, in episode 10, HO talks to the eldest brother and admits that MIDO said she pitied him and that he feels pathetic whenever she said that. MIDO overhears them, then tries to deny what she said, before leaving in tears instead of talking about it or allowing HO to express how he feels. HO catches up with her and holds her in his arms. He then tells her that it isn't her fault and that he knows those weren't the words she truly meant.

11. Cheating:

- HO felt himself floating at the supermarket (episode 4). He told himself that ignoring the feeling would be like pretending it had never happened.

- Subjective interpretation (emotional cheating): He is overly friendly and flirts with his colleagues, both men and women, as shown by his interactions with his boss, his colleagues, and SUA.

- Whenever SUA gets serious about her feelings, he draws a clear line!

12. Relationship and work: He is responsible for all the household chores and lets MIDO do nothing at home apart from focusing on her work. He asks about MIDO's job and tries to find solutions to her problems, such as when he approached her best friend to help with movie project.

At work, he has no real ambitions beyond getting a promotion so he can take MIDO to Paris, since that is her dream. However, he has recently started showing signs of ambition since becoming involved with SUA. This is evident in the way he tricked SUA into giving him information and started fighting for projects at the company (episodes 9 and 10). SUA was even more pleased than angry about it ;).

13. Inner demons:

- He believes people only love him because they pity him.

- He loves his half-brother because he reminds him of who he was as a child, but he also resents his half-brother because he reminds him of his mother.

- Too sensitive and indecisive: He cannot bring himself to leave MIDO, even though he believes they should never have been together. He puts MIDO and her family before himself, as shown when he returned after MIDO attempted suicide. He even allowed her to see TEA again so she could find herself.

- He lacks self-esteem.

MIDO

1. She had both of her parents until she was seven years old.

2. Her father was her favorite person and the one who understood her best.

3. She says she hates her mother and brothers because, in her eyes, her mother cares more about them than about her. Is she simply selfish, or does she have her reasons?

4. Her father dies while saving HO at her request.

5. She feels guilty but lets HO take the blame. After seeing her mother's reaction to her father's death, she keeps the truth a secret until adulthood.

6. Does she become HO's protector to protect the life her father saved? Out of pity? Because of her guilt? The drama still hasn't provided an answer.

7. Her mother and brothers consider her the family failure. She is emotionally distant from her family because its members rely more on HO than on her. He isn't just the family's best friend: HO is also her emotional support.

8. Mental load:

- She takes a job she dislikes to pay off HO's mother's debts without telling him.

- She takes in HO's brother without telling him.

9. Relationship and work: She has experienced career failures and has failed at almost everything she has attempted so far. She did nothing around the house. TEA tells her things bluntly and gives her room to express herself, which means she doesn't feel suffocated. He also makes her happy and makes her feel alive again. As the latest episodes show, she smiles more often and now wears colorful clothes. :)

10. Inner demons:

- She is indecisive.

- She suffers from severe depression caused by the guilt she has carried over her father's death for years, her career failures, and her breakup with TEA.

- She isn't sure about anything in her life.

11. Cheating ( emotionally and physically ) :

- She kissed TEA while she was in the process of getting sober.

- She didn't push TEA away and kissed him back.

- She is unsettled by TEA's advances and almost kissed him at his apartment while she was still with HO.

- She tried to hide her cheating.

Who is more depressed than the other, and who has valid reasons for feeling that way? Who is right and who is wrong. HO fault? Because if he hadn't insisted on getting back together as a couple, then MIDO's actions with TEA at the office and in their apartment wouldn't have been considered deception.

However, there are many other opinions. Some people say that a man who easily gives up on a relationship has never truly loved his partner, while others argue that insisting on getting back together is toxic. In your opinion, how should we look at the characters' problems, their lives, and their decisions?

As for MIDO, is she wrong for acting on her feelings while being in a relationship !And is HO wrong for not knowing when to give up !
