News A Winter Sun Wakes the Wind in Spring Hills' Dream
CONTEXT [NOT A SPOILER] (before we understand each episode)
This drama's timeline is in the near future, 2032. This timeline is a stylistic choice by the director and so is the complicated way to film the drama as this drama deals with heavy topics that go against the government. It is not a typical romantic drama— it actually critiques the toxic culture of the entertainment industry, homophobia, performative allyship, fetishization, shipping culture, abuse of power, political corruption, extramarital affairs and many other things I can't even remember. These things might sound minor to you or me but it's a huge deal in China to bypass the censorship with all these things in it and not get in trouble in their homeland.
Next I'm going to clear up all your misunderstandings or translation errors from GagaOLala. Read this after each episode to understand them (yes, I sat down and watched all episodes again to write this.) Since it's my tenth watch, I might have gotten desensitized so if I miss anything or make some mistakes, feel free to reply and correct me and I'll edit and update this afterwards.
Also, for more context, don't forget to watch the Small Theatre episodes available on YouTube, GagaOOLala, or whichever streaming platform you're using. They are part of the drama but were omitted due to further censorship issues.
Thanks.
EPISODE-1 [see after you've watched episode 1]
Qingtian, the younger brother of Qinglang, actually knew Changyang years earlier as he had already been to Molie and spent time there. That's why he has assimilated into the environment really well while Qinglang hasn't. Changyang is a good friend of Qingtian.
Qinglang went to Molie because he has an upcoming variety show with Shi Yuhao, his ex. Those strings of unintelligible hashtags at timestamp 11:42 were #HaoandQingMakeAComeback, #HurryUpAndBringOnTheSofaKissScene, #ReleaseTheBehindTheSceneFootageWeNeed, #WeWantToWatchTheBedScenes.
Xu, The God of Wealth, is Qinglang's investor and also a good friend of his.
The answer to timestamp 14:43 is in Small Theatre BS01.
I'll tell you the answer to the hallucination at timestamp 15:25 in a later episode explanation.
Let me clarify any confusion you might have regarding their ages. Changyang went to live in Molie when he was 12 years old and now he is 20. Qinglang is 30 years old now. So, they have a ten-year age gap.
At timestamp 29:41, Qinglang kept tugging at Changyang's shirt and asking for it and that's why he took it off (I'm clearing this misunderstanding coz when I first watched it, I thought Changyang just wanted to take it off or that the director just wanted us to see his abs xD)
This was for episode one, I'll update on episode 2 accordingly tomorrow.
