Political as in propaganda in war dramas or just court stuff in general? If it's the first, maybe Fall in Love? It's war but pretty light on propaganda and definitely a romance.

Are You the One? might be something you like. I'm not sure if Love Like the Galaxy would qualify from your perspective, but it is an all-time favorite of mine.

My rec:

  • Perfect Match: I enjoyed this show, not in spite of the flawed MLs but because of them. Flawed characters are often more interesting to me, esp. when we witness their development arc. The courtships are very sequential even though we still see married characters afterwards. Third sister Kang Ning and Chai An's courtship had a Pride & Prejudice vibe, Chinese style. Their wit and intellect were a great match, although Chai An could be immature at times, kind of like a 3rd grader pulling their crush's braids for attention. Second sister Fu Hui's husband was not the smartest tool in the shed. He was inconsiderate to her and would be soft-hearted to strangers, which was not OK to me. Genres: Historical, Comedy, Romance, Family

  • Wrong Carriage, Right Groom: This is a fun show. There are some war scenes, because one of the grooms is a fierce general but they're not the main focus of the show.

My Uncanny Destiny does feature two countries at war, but that isn't the point of the drama. This has a charismatic cast, leads whose romance feels natural, and some charming bits. I got the feeling both lead actors enjoyed making this drama. It may have been due to their acting skills, but when actors convey that enjoyment to their audience, everyone has a good time. There is some slapstick humor, but the timing was on point, and I didn't mind it.

The Story of Ming Lan is a heavy drama, but it follows an admirable heroine. The romance isn't a gushing, teenage-hormonal affair, but a reasoned, mature one. It has 78 episodes, but, when it ended, I almost wished for more.

Pursuit of Jade does feature war—the ML is a general—but that takes back seat to the love affair. Great visuals.
