Chinese drama acting is awful

I never understood why they "had to" do dubbing especially for Taiwanese or HK actors or actresses appearing in a Mainland China drama. It seems like they don't approve of their way of speaking which sound like BS.

there are some chinese drama, they used high heel, shoes in their room. Can anybody tell me, is it like that in china ?  because in korean drama they use slippery in their house, so look natural. I think korean actors and actress are better, the supporting cast member also do the good job. They act more natural, when they cry, laugh, angry, look real. sorry this is my opinion. thanks

Chinese dramas have grown a lot in terms of quality. Try to watch Surgeons

I have similar dilemma. Chinese Historical dramas were great like Nirvana, Battle of Changsha, The Disguiser, Journey of Flower... But not a fan of modern drama.. But The surgeons, Love me if you dare were great...

I wouldn't really characterize the acting as 'bad'. I think that there's a certain 'flavor' to Chinese productions and yeah, it can be lame (plus off putting to those not familiar). I see it more often in historical drama but I haven't seen enough modern to put my 2c in. I'm watching Ode to Joy and think the acting is pretty good actually.

I find it's because of the dubbing. It really feels like they are reading from a script, and they are! (The voice actors anyway)

I agree with some of this. The only chinese drama I watched with good actiing was To be a better man. I tried Love Me If You Dare but it lacked emotion for me. Boss & Me I also dropped, but not for the acting, the male lead was handsome but I couldnt like the main couple relationship. I try really hard at Ch dramas because I study chinese languase, but it is hard. The Tw dramas are ok for me, In Time With You is good, one of my favorites. I watched a lot of them, of course if you watch the Itazura na Kiss remake it has some exagerated reactions, but for me the acting was good and it passed as humor. I saw some kdramas were they act to look funny, eg. Kill Me, Heal Me, the girl screams all the time, some dramas the characters are dumb, too inoccent, things like that. I think it also depends of you and what you like.

I think exactly the same thing. I watced a few Chinese dramas. Their acting gave me laugh. The Lost Tomb, Detective Sweet, The Empress of China, and Refresh Man (as Taiwanese series, and Aaron Yan can't act a bit). Recently i am watching The Mystic Nine and Ice Fantasy. Yesterday i watched an episode of Ice Fantasy and literally i laughed. There was very poor acting. And its visual was like a computer game's. The Empress of China is the biggest Chinese series based on its budget. But espiecially that old emperor can't act a bit. They all have the same looks, the same talking style, they speak like they are spelling. But year after year i think they are getting better. I saw Tribes and Empires' trailer. It really impressed me. And Sparrow (Li Yi Feng can't act by the way) But i kinda like it, that's what i am gonna watch next. Anyway i hope it will get better.

Chinese has their share of dramas that is suprr flawed. But they also have some of the greatest acted/written/narrated drama, namely nirvana in fire. This drama is the best there is.
Then there is also the likes of Ten Miles of Peach blossoms, Battle of Changsa, The Disguiser which just screams perfect acting... then for contemporary pieces there is Ode to Joy, Surgeons, When a snail falls in love, love me if you dare.

@tarkan-san I think Aaron Yan play too much CEOs that this became part of him lol I didn't like Refresh Man at all. His acting was another level on a drama named Alice in Wonder City. I didn't like the plot, but his acting was good. He played a violinist that  has some serious psychological issues... one of the best acting I saw in tw dramas.

@userbmc Maybe you are right. I didn't see Alice in Wonder City. But he was so bad on Refresh Man. But Joanne Tseng was good. Anyway, Refresh Man was only romance-drama that i have ever watched. I don't like romance dram which  it's like only genre that Taiwanese made. I don't have a plan to watch any romance-comedy. 

Speaking of acting, I began to watch Battle of Changsha. It was really good. Script or acting on anything. It was really different from the other Chinese dramas. And no speaking like spelling lol

@tarkan-san maybe I'll try this one, but for me the worst thing is when they dubbed the actors voice. I was trying to saw a chinese one once and I couldn't pass the 1st episode because of the dubbing!!! It totally destroyed the drama for me

I just dove into a bunch of Cdramas in last month.  Never could tolerate before for many of same reasons as everyone above.  BUT was stunned at how good The King's Woman is. Casting, acting, costumes, cinematography, directing....  I also watched Love Me if You Dare and loved it.  Am currently watching Lost Love in Times and My Mr. Mermaid.  I also gave Taiwanese works a chance:  Autumn's Concerto (now a classic) and Attention, Love (new).   I notice absolutely nothing related to dubbing in the above Chinese works...they've done a fine job.  All these are enjoyable and worth checking into/giving a chance.
