Nope, he cannot fight, perhaps I should have clarified that i meant physically fight. He is very smart and always steps ahead of the enemy but when it comes to a physical fight he absolutely cannot fight. The people around him were trained in martial arts but he wasn't, when they are not around he becomes helpless. On the first trip back with ning'er to the capital he was protecting his instrument instead of fighting back. Towards the end of the show after they were ambushed, he was protecting her using the instrument and once it was broken they were completely helpless. I don't think the ability to use a weapon counts because once you are disarmed you cannot do anything.
