It is! But I felt it was worth it. I had wanted one for so many years. I finally took the plunge. In the BJD community, they have a few funny quirks.
The first of course, is that the doll has it's own personality.
The second is that you have a bond with the doll.
The third has a very Harry Potter feel to it. The doll chooses you (wand chooses wizard). It sort of felt that way when I was looking for a doll. Several gawjuss ones were shown to me, but I knew the instant I saw mine that it was mine.
Everyone has a rotating platter thing for the dining room table where I live. I think it's called a Lazy Susan. I've also seen them at Chinese restaurants.
