Funnily, the more dramas I watch, the more difficult it becomes to rate them: I end up comparing among those I've already rated and it becomes a useless exercise in futility.
This said, although there are mediocre dramas that capture my fancy for unfathomable reasons, I can't bring myself to give a 10 to a silly plot, ordinary dialogues or bad acting. Regardless of how much I liked it, a drama has to have substance and "own" the podium, otherwise every mark I give would lose in dependability. Obviously I love my 7 year old niece's drawings and cherish them for the simple fact that they touch my heart, but if I said they are worth a 10, how could I possibly say the same of a painting by Klimt?
Crazy4You wrote: I find myself the same about giving a 10 to dramas after I've seen a good number. And I like your comparison - I feel the same! To me a drama has to not only be something I really loved but it has to be original and has to be something I really feel deserves a 10 and there's little to nothing I would change about the story. That being said, the dramas I've previously watched and given 10s I can't bring myself to change them to 9s (even if some might deserve it) out of favoritism. I find I give more 8s and 9s nowadays then when I first joined MDL. I think that when you first get introduced to dramas you want to give every drama a 10 (in most cases I've seen) but after you've seen so many you start to see similarities in each drama and it makes it harder to think a drama is a "masterpiece" when it starts taking on every cliche you've found in previous dramas (:
amrita828 wrote: I agree with every word. :) Lately I've found myself giving more and more 9. That's because I've seen some truly amazing shows, full deserving on many aspects. The extra point which I retain is for how much it captures my heart. So, basically a 10 derives its bonus point from something very personal and at times inexplicable.

Crazy4You wrote: The same for me (: I can only give a 10 to a drama now if I personally found it to be a masterpiece and loved every bit of the drama. Even if the drama is really good, unless I personally have a love for it I can't give it a 10 (:
I do the same thing! Haha I've given 10s to dramas then gone back and changed them to 9s. Or if I really didn't care for a drama at first I might rate it with a low of 6 or 7....but like with Heartstrings - I kept going back and knocking the score down as after time passed I found a 7 didn't really describe my feelings on it. So now it's a 4
amrita828 wrote: LOL. Poor Heartstrings. Give it time, it will become a 2. ;)
Yes, going back and changing the score has become a bad habit of mine too. I say bad because my attempts at objectivity are all good on paper but there are some deep dislikes (or likes), which I can't overcome no matter how hard I try.
Sleepninja wrote: Haha I have lessened the score on a few dramas over time. But for the most part, I leave my 10's as they are. I rate it based on how much I loved it. Yes the plot and acting are important too, but if I rated it a 10 that means that I loved the plot and acting enough to rate it so. lol
wrote: I have trouble going back and changing dramas I rated high and loved to a lower score, so I usually just leave them as they are, too. If I didn't like a drama or if I feel it was overrated and I didn't like it too much to begin with, I tend to go back and keep knocking the score down (You're Beautiful went from an 8 to a 6, BOF went from an 8 to a 6, etc.) Haha it's bad
Sleepninja wrote: Hahaha You just reminded me that I had been meaning to change my rating for YB. I originally had it as a 9, but was thinking that it really wasn't that impressive, just my love for the characters. (Jeremy and Yonghwa's character) I rated BOF a 4 since it took me 4 years to get as far as episode 8. hahaha I did not like it.
Crazy4You wrote: Haha I think the only part about YB I did like was Jeremy and Yonghwa's character. And a few of the songs. But I didn't see the big deal about it so I knocked the score down to a 6. Haha. And hahaha that really is terrible if it took you 4 years to proceed not even halfway through a drama :p
