You're welcome. Granted the major change was that the translation said "I like you too" compared to "I love you too" and people got annoyed because it seemed like they censored it. But the Japanese original does say "suki" which can be translated two ways, in this context it was definitely romantic love. I think if people bothered to learn the minimum of Japanese needed to understand that phrase, they'd have no problem with the translation, necessarily.
Oh I saw that controversy on X but I agree with you, that can be a common issue when translating japanese, it's not that unilateral in its meaning/implications. Unfortunately that's common among watchers or readers, most people don't take the time to understand nuances of another language or culture. Even those who do, often have something to say because they can never be satisfied enough.
