Just finished Jack O’Frost and here are my thoughts:
Overall the story was unique and the actors were adorable (Fumiya’s puppy eyes 🥺) and I liked the ending + so many kiss scenes hehe
It did feel kinda slow at times and it wasn’t like an amazing drama for me, but it was cute and I liked the character and relationship development
It was so satisfying that each ep was exactly 24 minutes long but that last ep broke the chain lol
Overall rating: 8/10

I found a comment on the page by @Godpda which describes pretty much how I feel about this drama:
“Yeah it was good. But I feel like I went it with too much expectation. The comments and review hyped it up so much, so i thought before hand that I would like it too. But somehow I did not like it that much. Don't get me wrong, I could see that it was a great show with a beautiful but also sad story and set up. The cast was great, they did a wonderful job. The music also was great. But again, somehow I was not into it. Even tho it had everything I should like. I don't understand it myself.”

That's not so far off from my own feelings about it. I liked it well enough, mainly for the cast (and especially seeing the familiar actors - both leads and three supportings), and it's a good and well-executed story, but I didn't viscerally love it so much that I feel a need to re-watch it. I likewise feel that my expectations were hyped up too much. The average MDL rating of 7.7 seems about right.

Yeah I'm glad to see it has an average rating on the upper end as it's definitely deserved, but that's a qualitative observation that I'm not commenting on when I say that I think it's an underrated series and a sleeper hit.
I'm making a quantitative statement, because there aren't as many people watching it. It has quite a low viewership compared to other BLs currently airing along side it if you look at the # of watchers on any given BL series page such as Perfect 10 Liners, The Boy Next World, Ossan's Love(Thai), ThamePo. There wasn't any buzz or hype generated around Geboys and it's just not being talked about that much as there isn't a signifant number of people watching it.
That's how I arrived at it being underrated and a sleeper hit, because it is actually supported by that really good rating vs. the current low number of watchers. A lot of people are sleeping on it right now and others have expressed dismissing watching it for wahetver their reasons(I almost did as well), but will eventually come to realize it's a great series later and get into watching it eventually.

I remember how I couldn't wait for Battle of the Writer's, Jack & Joker, The Heart Killers, and The Boy Next World, with popular and talented BL actors I like.
For sure these dramas are loved by many, but I feel underwhelmed by each one, and two of these titles have really disappointed me. (BOTW & TBNW)
I don't know if it's the build-up/hype, or my expectations going in, or did the production and story just not work like it could have?
I'll never know but I got to thinking that it must be hard to get the right balance of everything needed to make a really good BL drama, and that it takes more than a few popular couples to headline a series.

This could mark the start of a shift from mainstream series to less watched ones from countries like Vietnam, like persons could be finding that those series fulfil a new niche 🤷. A drastic shift is very unlikely though because fan loyalty runs deep in the BL world lol 😂
Will this discourage me from eventually watching every single BL that releases? Hell no lol
